Yes, but it's looking increasingly sure that we won't be stuck with a Republican Senate and Congress for the last two years. This could be the last nail in Bush's coffin as far as his place in history. He's hobbled himself, all he needs is a legislature that will leave him with no legs whatsoever.

Wizard, don't be too sure. There still are millions of people who vote based on single wedge issues: anti-abortion and anti-homosexual rights.

Some, especially Republicans, will vote for anyone who promises to lower their taxes.

Others will vote for anyone who follow the National Rifle Association's edicts.

Kerry's main fault is that he couldn't beat Bush. He might have been a great president. We'll never know.
I agree with BBB's last point. There are still grounds for fear.

LW- I sincerely hope so. This country has swung too far to the right. What we need now is some balance.

Yeah, but there are just as many people who see the rights of Americans being eroded.

Given Bush's current approval ratings (in the the 30s), it might be hard to find many people who would vote for Bush again...

But will they get off their butts and vote?

Well, Bush can't run again, so it is a moot point. I just hope that Bush's unpopularity spills over to the gubernatorial and congressional elections this year. Also, I hope that Bush's reputation will kill any higher political aspirations that his little brother Jeb has!

Unfortunately, it is that balance that is never on a fair equlibrium. They are still all politicians, the majority of them lawyers who should be mediating the law, not making law. There's as much wobbling on both sides to make the ship sail roughly through the seas. Their sole purpose is to try and get re-elected, principals are in the back of one of their drawers.

Most people do not care much for their rights, particularly the first amendment. They have no tendency to generate unpopular ideas, so they fear not the loss of the right to do so. Just don't raise their taxes, the cost of gasoline or lower the speed limit.

Taking the populaces speed away will cause serious withdrawal symptoms and we will all be in slow driving rehab.

Since all politics is local the loss of congress by the republicans is far from a "slam dunk"

Always fear a government who fears YOUR gun.

aka. John Kerry. Did he shoot that goose or just legislate it to death?

Anybody preventing free speech will be shot. I think Dick Cheney has already set back the unhindered right to own arms for the foreseeable future.

The fact that some idiot can go to a southern state and buys guns for sale to criminals in NYCity protects nothing. Most the guns used in NY crimes were obtained in that manner according to police statistics. How is that for protecting the first amendment? I see nothing in that amendment that requires the facilitating of crime.

Some criminals use cars to get away and risk the lives of thousands of motorists every year. We should ban cars too because criminals use them.
