He may still count towards your roster. So if you want to pick up a new player you may have to release one. fbaezer said you could place one player on the dl but I've never done it so I'm not sure how to. fbaezer???

If you think Kerry "I've never won more than 15 games in a seaon plus my arm keeps falling off" Wood is going to help you, you got another thing coming. Laughing

I just placed Burnett on the DL (since he's actually on the DL this is an available position for him), and picked up Wood. That brought my total roster to 23, which is the same number jespah has. (Although the Boston Puppies currently have an empty RP position. Wink )

I wonder if the system lets you add a player whenever you have someone listed as on the DL, regardless of whether you've actually placed them in the DL position? But in any case, if you add another player you will have to drop somebody else.

I think you actually ned to place him on the DL. Then you should be able to add to your roster as long as that player is on the DL.

Ah, I just figgered it out, it just required you had to click add, then click it again, I guess that's a confirmation of sorts.

Hey, it doesn't cost me anything to pick him up does it?

I'm also under the assumption it won't cost me when I drop him like a hot potato. Laughing

You got that right, Tico.

It really is to bad. He really has the talent to be a great pitcher. He just hasn't been able to stay healthy enough to do so. Of course being that he plays for the "other" chicago team... you don't see me crying none.

Thanks jpinmilw and Tico et al for getting us novices started. I am still struggling with some of the mechanics of playing but I have a bit of a notion now. I do have one question, though, regarding the scoring aspect. I am matched with fbaezer for the week of April 2nd-April 8th. When I hit "matchup" I see that I am ahead 16-4 or something. But fbaezer played the Sunday game (CLE vs CWS). Is the 16-4 cumulative for the week, or just for yesterday? It it is just yesterday do I need to look elsewhere for Sunday-Monday combined? It could be that that game was tossed out, but that wouldn't seem quite fair.

It is a cumulative score for the whole week.

But why did Sister Fister, who had 4 yesterday, get downgraded to 3 today?

Scores are based on real life statistical data. When one of your players scores a run in real life, you get one tally in the runs column. Same thing for stirkeouts, RBIs, wins, loses, etc.

The stats for two players (meaning us) competing against each other are then compared. The player who has more runs than the other gets one point. Same thing for stirkeouts, RBIs, wins, loses, etc. (although in the case of negative stats [strikeouts for batters, losses for pitchers, etc] the player with less tallies gets the point).

The points will fluctuate during the week as one team may have more runs one day but less runs the next. At the end of the week, the stats are compared again and that is what really counts towards your teams progress. During the week it is a "in progress" score.

Does that make sesne?

Fora real example, right now the sister fisters have 4 doubles and the puppies only have 3. Since the Sister Fisters have more doubles right now they have a point for that stat. If, however, during the week the puppies get 2 more doubles bringing the total to 5 while the sister fisters don't get any, the puppies would then "take" that point because now the puppies have more doubles. This continues until the end of the week when a new matchup begins and the stats for that week are finalized.

At the end of the week does the team get the points and to at the end add them all up or do you get a W?

At the end of the week you will get a win/loss/tie record.

Each category that you "win" will give you a point in the win column. Same for losses and ties in their respective categories.

The Wins/losses/ties will get updated at the end of the week after each matchup is over. These are cumulative points for the whole season. The person with the best winning percentage at the end of the season wins.

JP can you explain Yahoo's ERA stat?

I'm trying to figure out why B. Zito has an ERA of 47.25. Confused

Code:Pitchers IP W L CG SHO SV ER HR BB K ERA WHIP

B. Zito 1.1 0 1 0 0 0 7 1 4 3 47.25 6.00
(Oak - SP)

I'm not jp, but I guess I can explain.

(7/1.333)*9

Earned runs allowed/ innings pitched multiplied by 9 (number of innings in a baseball game).

This means Zito would have allowed 47.25 earned runs in a 9 inning game.
