Well, how 'bout a PM to Slappy? He might have just forgotten.

I don't think slappy is all that interested. If I recall when he signed up he sent a me a pm saying that he has a habit of signing up and not participating much. I'll pm him and see if he still wants to play, though.

I guess my vote would be to draft his players, rather than you manage his team. However, another option would be to just assume this is Slappy's baseball management style ... and not do anything.

I pm'ed slappy and he isn't really that interested in it. I thought that drafting the players might help the rest of up stay more competitive... or we could just leave it as is.

So... what ever the rest of the league wants to do is fine by me.

Hi and good luck to the Tamales. Your batting lineup is very strong vs the Rednecks. My pitching is great right now, while yours kind of...what's the word...sucks. Should be an interesting week.

Yahoo says in League Notes: "If you wish to continue to receive live stats, you must purchase..." etc. What is that about?

I have no idea what to do about Slappy's team. We need 8 teams. Is there a way that it could be put on auto-pilot with a roster of decent players who could be expected to play most days and a couple or so SP who would start once a week? I don't understand the mechanics of running a dormant team.

This is my vote too, at least for the first round.

See? Several of us haven't played Slappy yet.

I've played Slappy and it wasn't that easy... granted I took all the easy categories vs him like runs, hits, doubles, homers (batters), innings pitched, wins, strikeouts (pitchers)... I almost logically in strikeouts (batters), walks (pitchers), homers (pitchers)... So you could say that playing the most players everyday is an advantadge instead of having a static lineup but it's also a disadvantage in other categories.

Some surprises were my lost in singles and my victory in losses.

My proposal is that we leave slappy with his best lineup and the rest of the guys could be drafted by other managers.

Ok, I've done a tally of the stats favored by playing more players (PMP), playing less players (PLP) and those that are neutral (N).

PMP (15) - R, H, 1B, 2B, 3B, HR(b), RBI, SB, BB(b), IP, W, CG, SHO, SV, K(p)

PLP (6) - K(b), GIDP, L, ER, HR(p), BB(p)

N (3) - AVG, ERA, WHIP

Out of the 15 in PMP CG and SHO are flips of a coin so I would say realistically they're 13.

So -- if I understand this correctly, Joe -- it appears that the more players you put out there, the better you generally do in hitting. Pitching gets a bit of a boost with fewer players, although not as much.

Or am I reading that incorrectly?

PS If they want money -- sheesh! I already pay for extra mail account space, you'd think that would be enough. Grrr!! <snarling puppies>

You only pay if you want to continue getting live stats on the yahoo site. If a game is on and you want to see how your guys are doing you can go to the yahoo site and see up to the minute stats.

I just go to mlb.com and get the same thing for free.

Ahh, that explains why I didn't have live stats yesterday.

That isn't entirely accurate, Joe.

The chances of getting less strikeouts will increase if you play less players but some players strike out more than others. Ideally you would want a good player with a good batting average and RBI production with a low strikeout total. Same thing with grounding into double plays and all of the pitching categories.

It isn't just how many guys you have started... it is the overall quality of the guys you have started that matter.

I guess you're right, jpin. But would you rather leave an empty spot in your lineup on a sunday you're only winning by one strikeout in the batting department? (not sure if it's possible though)

....

My batting did the talking yesterday, plus I got a nice game from my pitchers so I have the upper hand early in this week, let's see what the Rednecks have.

I guess it would depend on how badly I was winning/losing the rest of the categories. If I had 10+ point leads in all the other categories I guess I would consider it, but if all the other categories were close you might end up winning the strikeout category but losing the hits, RBIs, HR, doubles, triples and walks categories.

and yes, you could bench all of your players if you wanted to.

Not to shabby. Konerko and Utley have been really hot lately.

I did a bit of retooling and I actually have the nice problem of having to many good guys to start each day. I have to say... you guys are in trouble the rest of the season

Let's see

Hey John!
You say you're real
But it's all how you feel
'Cause you got nothing
On my highlight reel

You gotta swing the bat
To see where you're at
I'm sure at the end
I'll get the pat in the back, uh!
