Speaking to nobody in particular, I remember a wise person once advising me that only an idiot argues with an idiot. I frequently wish I took that to heart more.

Tico and Foxfyre, read what he wrote.

Quote:
Well, consider the merciless berating of Judge Samuel Alito by Sen. Ted Kennedy and his Democratic colleagues on the Senate Judiciary Committee to the point of driving Mrs. Alito to leave the chambers in tears.

Would someone, unlike you and I who saw the hearings, know that she left some twenty minutes after Kennedy was finished speaking? No. Are you sure that anything Kennedy, or any of the other "Democratic colleagues", had to say was the reason she left? (God, I am channeling one of the wingnuts here) or was she just exhausted by the long day and got weepy over the GOOD things Lindsey was saying about the man she's married to.

You don't know. But, what the hey, eat the spin.

Some people read more carefully, Joe, and do not draw irrational conclusions based on ideological bias. So yes, not everybody who read what was there would have drawn the conclusion that you seemed to have drawn from it. Some people I trust to be precise in their words and their intent, and some people I trust to completely distort the words and intent to make whatever less-than-honest point they want to make. And some people project their own biases on others.

I'm not saying that you are in any of these categories, by the way, but you are extrapolating what was said into something that was not said. It has been widely reported by the mainstream press that she left the chamber in tears upset over the treatment her husband was taking. As none of them were giving Judge Alito any points as a good guy, I have no reason to disbelieve these reports.

Wow.

That is not what I said. This is your misdirection, in this case!! It is also a lie that I implied it!! I happened to look it up, before I said it. He is a hypocrit, which you can find it if you search it, not that your venal mind would allow it!!

Ah, I understand now: I should gauge what you are saying not by what you type, but by what you are thinking.

Sometimes a cat just likes to play with a mouse, Foxy.

But then again I also remember a wise man saying: An eagle does not hunt flies.

Well, there's your problem in a nutshell, tico. Once again, you are reading absolutely the wrong "wise man" if your goal is, and it might not be, real wisdom. You'll want to find the fellow that said "A fly does not hunt eages" and work from there.

Not entirely the case, Foxy. I recall some of the MSM reporting that she left the room during questioning from Lindsey Graham, unfairly intimating -- like Joe is -- that it was his questioning that caused her to leave the room. Those able to be honest with themselves understand Graham's comments were not the cause of her emotional build up, but it was instead the questioning of her husband by the likes of Kennedy and other Democrats. Graham merely provided the release.

I distinctly recall Graham directly apologizing to her for what she was having to endure. I will concede that this moment of kindness following a long period of venom of the most viscious kind might have triggered the emotional response.

So if that was Joe's point--which he didn't make--then I will concede that possibilitiy. I won't concede that anything Graham said was what caused her to leave the chamber in tears, nor will I concede that the previous poster said that she left DURING Kennedy's questioning.

How very therapeudic of him. Actually, I like Graham rather a lot. Of course, as we now know, his merciless comments made Ted Kennedy's wife leave the living room TV welling up in tears.

The point in question was valid. Why, after all, did Alito join that morally and politically repugnant group and then boast of his membership in his resume? His answers: "Gosh, I forget now" and "I was applying for a job with an administration which thought such ideas just peachy" are hardly satisfactory.

I love the "mercilessly berating" phrase. Let's sit it beside "mercifully torturing".

He is leaning rather heavily on the symbology of classic American myth, isn't he. In this case, stolen from the prior inhabitants of the place, but what the heck, possession being nine tenths and all that.

You are aware that the story Kennedy kept waving in his fat, little fingers was not a racist thing published by CAP, but instead a parady of a racist thing ..... right?

That whole episode was scripted. You think we could find a Supreme Court judge who isn't a liar. How sad.
