Setanta,

Aw c'mon, BIG GUY! Let's tell the whole truth here shall we? I told you that I had worded that incorrectly about my civil rights and you know it. You just seem to want to forget that I guess. Laughing Nothing like forgive and forget, huh? :wink:

This is a public forum where we can discuss pretty much anything we want to, isn't it? If there are certain rules about the topics you post, like your motives have to be approved by you (literally) or something, hey, I'm willing to abide by them if you just show them to me.

It's ok BIG GUY! I'm not angry at you. I'm not upset with you at all. Actually, I am quite enjoying this thread. I am learning a lot about the different people on here and I appreciate what they have shared with me.

Setanta,

I agree this is a dead issue. Arguing about it won't change a thing. However I've found it quite interesting reading others perceptions on this.

Your example is too far-out to be seriously considered. You're presenting a whole new question... Should anyone be forced into marriage?

Think about it some more, echi.

It's really a beautiful example.

~~~~
I'm over 30, so I don't care if anyone under 30 is forced to marry the nearest opposite sex person in the phone book, so I'll abstain from this vote. Good luck to all the under-30's.
I hope you find much joy, or at least not too much annoyance in your marriages.
~~~~

Abstention can be a negative. Think about how votes are reported.

We had an election in Canada yesterday. Some people said they voted for something/someone. Some people said they voted against something/someone. Others abstained. The abstainers had as much of an impact on the results as did the actual voters.

Of course, in my house they're not allowed to talk about politics if they abstain from voting, so I don't have to listen to their complaints about the results.

That's not telling the truth--that's lying. You said nothing of the kind to me.

Yes, and it's pathetic that the public can be sucked in to "debate" your idiotic and disingenuous canard about voting.

I don't give a rat's ass if you are angry or not. You are proposing a false tolerance on your part, because you acknowledge that there is no referendum in Louisiana, so you can spout this nonsense to attempt to make yourself look tolerant and reasonable, without actually having to do anything about it.

What have people "shared" with you? Did they cut something up and give you a piece? Did they let you play with it when they had gotten bored with it? You peddle nothing but nonsense.

Miss Angel, you are not even slightly cute or entertaining by continuing to address Setana as "Big Guy." Which further instills in me that most of what the heavy duty Christians want to do is taunt, as you are doing here...you are needy, and it's true, I don't feel any great love for you.

I think I see your point, but it still seems too far-out. I cannot imagine it being an issue for voters to consider whether to institute forced marriages. This hypothetical does not fit with reality. (Isn't this some kind of fallacy?)

Miss Eppie, MOAN has said that there is no such ballot initiative in Louisiana. The only apparent purpose of this thread is to show that she is tolerant and reasonable. Incidentally, of course, she can wrap herself in martyr's rags, and claim she is being assailed even though she is willing to be reasonable and tolerant. The appearance of martyrdom is very popular among some religionists--so long as they are not obliged to actually, physcially suffer for their beliefs.

But, in fact, by her own admission, her resolve is not going to be put to the test. Of course, were there such a ballot initiative, she could vote against it, and we would never know whether or not she were lying--so this exercise is futile in that regard, as well.

In the end, MOAN has started a thread on a topic which was beaten to death in page after page of other threads already. It's a sad case that so many were deluded into discussing it with her yet again, for no other apparent purpose than for MOAN to preen herself on her vitue--in my experience, that is one of her favorite passtimes.

Cliff Hanger,
You fail to realize that Setanta has referred to Momma Angel as MOAN for quite some time.

Despite pleas for him to refrain, he refuses to do so. She is doing this in desperation. Granted, it may not be viewed as a Christian thing to do, but Christians have a limit to their tolerance too.

You gotta admit, Setanta... Since posting that I would refrain from getting into arguments with you or retaliate to your posts, I have been true to my word. Don't you agree that I have been very gentle with you of late? ;-)

BTW - have you read all of my posts on this thread?

Yes, it is. So when are you going to stop shouting at me (MOAN)? Or is this a do as I say and not as I do rule?

Actually, I did say something of the kind to you.
Like I said before, if you or anyone else is going to give me grief about the way I vote or what I vote for, you are coming close to denying me the right to vote as I see fit. I may not have stated that exactly right or whatever. But, I am sure you get my drift.

So, it seems I did say SOMETHING OF THE KIND to you afterall. It's ok. No big deal.

I don't like all the threads you start either. I have a choice. I either engage in them or not. You have the same choice.

Setanta, I state what my motives are. If you don't believe them then that is your problem. People have shared their thoughts and feelings with me just as with others. You are also sharing your thoughts and feelings, aren't you?
What is ludicrous is that MOAN has started a thread on this "issue" (it is not) and sucked so many people in.

In another thread, MOAN contended that granting to homosexuals all of the civil rights accorded to adults would diminish her civil rights. Challenged to show how this were so, this lame "voting issue" is the best she could come up with. Since then, she has beating this horse to death--although it was dead on arrival.

She has said that she did not "approve" of homosexuality before she became a fanatical christian--so protestations on her part that she is not a homophobe ring pretty hollow from where i stand. She acknowledges that there is no referendum on homosexual marriage in Louisiana, so it costs her nothing to be smug and portray herself as tolerant when she doesn't actually have to put her money where her big mouth is.

I can't believe she's dragged all of y'all into this.
Including you, boss.

Desperation being the important word here. From my viewpoint, calling her MOAN is appropriate, although WHINE comes to mind more readily. BIG GUY sounds like something Pat Boone would say-- oh wait a minute, it is something Pat Boone would say.

Come to think of it, using the word BIG GUY is also something Mr. Crusader hisself--G.W.Bush would say, sort of along the lines of "Your doin' a great job there, Brownie."
