The Middle of the Road or Not?

If you abstain from voting on the same sex marriage issue (assuming you would get to vote on it) are you discriminating against anyone?

Can there be a "middle of the road" (neither for nor against) on this issue?

I don't think so.

We know these rights are withheld from this segment of society.

Abstaining means that's ok with you, IMO.

Ok, here's the deal.

I believe homosexuality is wrong. But I do recognize that this is a choice between a person and God. I cannot, in all good conscience, vote yes for something I believe is wrong. So, if I abstain from voting, then I am neither endorsing or opposing same sex marriage.

So Lash, you are telling me that there is only one right thing to do here? Laughing

I think Lash is saying that a vote that is not against would be acceptance of. But, I could be wrong. ;-)

Intrepid, that's not whay I read. I would be interested in hearing more about what Lash has to say on the subject. And, with following the discussion that would follow. That is, I think I would be interested.

Another angle;
What is inherently wrong with discrimination anyway?
Is not any judgement or conclusion we reach about anything discrimination?
Every time we make a choice do we not leave all possible alternatives 'discriminated against'?
Just some food for thought

Actually, dears, I thought everyone was aware of my position on gay marriage.

It's not likely what you would expect of someone with my other views.

I think not allowing gay people to marry is discrimination. I don't think we have to approve it, or hold anyone's hat while they engage in gay sex, but this is too close to other forms of discrimination to me. Doesn't it strike you as identical to laws preventing blacks from marrying whites, or attending college, or driving in some states? Shouldn't all adult humans have the same rights?

I can't approve of the discrimination. I have to take every opportunity to try to right what I believe is an injustice against gay people.

So, unless I were to vote for this issue, I would be wrong? I can't just abstain?

I don't agree. If you were to vote, it seems that you would vote no. It is apparent that you would not vote yes. By abstaining, you are not adding to the no vote. How could that be wrong?

I don't think anyone can tell you how to vote, but IMO, if a person knows a slave is chained to a tree, and also knows that her vote can free them, and yet she refuses to vote, she's responsible for slavery.

That's just the logic to me.

But, I would never try to press anyone to vote any certain way. Your vote belongs to you. Just answering the question.

Something else that comes o mind are the Samaritan woman and the whore Christ saved from a stoning. He embraced those reviled and mistreated by society.

I hope people won't mistake commonly accepted church teachings with what Christ would be doing.

They're people.

Since I missed a chance to say a boring but heartfelt "LOL", I'll say a boring but heartfelt "I agree with Lash."

So, unless I vote yes, I am wrong?

I have to set aside my right to vote my conscience in order to be right? I have to overlook my right for someone elses'?
