I have the Party Room reserved for us on May 7th from noon to midnight.
I will need names for the guest list as the day approaches, and please PM me for the address of my building.
Street parking is available but may require some searching, valet parking is provided at a cost (will get back with the exact rates of the building) and public transportation is fairly close.
If anyone needs more info PM me or ask in the other thread.
Cubs are playing away that weekend. I want to get out there this year to see Wrigley.
Pre-get-together get-together:
Where:
Duke of Perth pub
2913 N. Clark St.
Chicago
Date: Friday, May 5, 2006
Time: 6:30 to whenever we leave, then on to a blues club on Halsted St.
All A2Kers in town for the meet-up should plan to attend! What better place to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than at a Scottish pub?
For those definately attending, please post your arrival and departure dates here. Knowing who's in town when will be helpful for all. Thanks!
I'll bookmark for now - my memory is failing....
Arriving Wednesday the 3d in the afternoon. Departing Saturday the 13th in the afternoon.

Sounds great Joe, and it was nice of you all to choose a Scottish pub in my honour.
(watch out, I imagine the malt whisky will be expensive there)

Some might like a Fullers London Pride, John Courage, McEwan's Export ... or just a Robinsons Orange Squash

Consider it booked.
Oh, and since you're here posting links, Joe: What would be the best Chicago library for really obscure, old books?
(Background: The book I'm after is Steven Field: Personal Reminiscences of the Gold Rush in California. Published in the 1880s, republished in the 1960s. The subject is history, the author, one of the more prominent 19th century Supreme Court justices. So I'm looking for a library that's either deeply into history or deeply into law.)
Thomas: The Northwestern University Law School library has a copy:
link.
DePaul University has it on microfiche at its Lincoln Park library:
link
And the Chicago Public Library has two copies, one at the downtown main branch and one at its Chinatown branch (internal links don't work: go to the
CPL website and conduct a catalog search)
Oddly enough, none of these copies were checked out when I did my search.
The Newberry Library at 60 West Walton in Chicago has Field's work in a special collection, Thomas.
Newberry Library Special Collection
I've PMed Thomas already: he could get it in USA from $ 1,000 in the original version down to EUR 35,90 (hardcover) from amazon Germany. (Which more than 1/3 less than at amazon USA!)
<I did the same thing
- well, a link to all the copies available through Alibris>
Thomas and Walter,
If either of you go to the main branch of the Chicago Public Library, you may also find the book, "The German Dimension of American History" by Joseph Wandel (my father).
Well bloody hell that's amazing. Respect, Wandels.
[And than look at Chemistry" in "Colloid & Polymer Science, 1917, Springer" for "The Sorption of water vapour" .... unfortunately, the "Hinteler effect" didn't last until the end of the 20's when better results were discovered (my uncle died in WWI)]
Back to the facts of the gathering ...
Walter, You have our undivided respect irregardless of your family background.
My family background is nothing to hoot about; my great, great, grandfather was samurai.
