Somewhere in this thread does it say what show you're all talking about? Just curious...
Thanx for the links, Phoenix.
And none of you see why this would be offensive to Christians?
Sad.
MoAn, what are you personally finding offensive about the summaries in the links provided by Phoenix?
I am not asking you to speak for all Christians, as you do not represent all of us.
What do YOU think you will find offensive about The Book of Daniel, without viewing an episode of it?
I just read all the posts I missed during the workday. I could've had a V-8.
I really don't know exactly what this show is all about. I understand a bit of the premise of it. Since I have not seen it, or have any first hand knowledge of it, I am not offended by it...at the moment.
I think back to a movie with George Burns. I think it was called Oh, God. I was not offended by this movie. I thought it was kind of far fetched and out there, but George (bless his heart) did a wonderful job in it. I did not view this movie as an afront to my Heavenly Father. It was a movie.
I do not think that shows such as Will & Grace, Seinfeld or any of the other shows try to put gays, Jews or anybody else in a bad light. They are funny...period.
I am a Christian, but if I was to be offended by a TV show... I would be just as offended if it cast Jews, Muslims, or anybody else in a bad light.
Thanks for your links. They make the show look almost like a remake of
Don Camillo and Peppone. That was a sequence of Italian books and films about a Catholic priest and the communist mayor of a small Italian town. The two are feuding and fighting each other all the time, usually with not-so-Christian methods.
Don Camillo was a big hit in the 1950s. If it ever offended any significant number of Italian Catholics, I never heard of it. Neither would I expect this new TV series to be offensive to many, especially not before seing a single scene of the series.
Way I look at it, the characters on a show have to be something. If you start taking out possibilities for fear of offending people, you would be left with stick figures with no dialog.

I think people can see why some christiand find it offensive.
What people are getting at is that different things offend all kinds of people. We all find some stuff on TV offensive. I find your assumption that you are right about god and this constructs likes and dislikes extremely offensive.
The question is why you are asking never to be offended when offense is a natural part of living in a pluralistic and open society, and you have not even made an attempt to demonstrate in any rationl way that this putative show would do any harm to christians in any meaningful way.

I was wondering if the Jesus thing was like Don Camillo's Jesus!!!
They are fabulous books, nicht wahr?
BTW, MA, I also find your moaning and "sadness" (which is deeply patronising) that people do not agree with you utterly offensive...but I am not asking that A2k cease to broadcast you.
I find the assumption some christians make that life is meaningless without a god also very offensive.
But I am not asking thta christians be forbidden to say it.
See the difference?
Well, from reading all these posts I have decided maybe you are right. Perhaps everything in the world (i.e, everyone, beliefs, God, etc.) should be there for us to make jokes about for our entertainment pleasure.
I am working on a premise for a new show right now. I sincerely hope that all of you will find it just as intriguing and non-offensive as you think others should find the show that is the topic of this thread. I will try to elaborate a bit more than they did, though. I think if I am very explicit about it all that would be better. Don't you agree?
I guess maybe I just needed to listen to all of you and learn how to lighten up a bit? As soon as I get my premise with its characters for this new show ready, I will post it for all of you to read. Then if you think it's even slightly funny, I will submit it for TV.
I can't thank all of you enough for giving me the idea! I just can't believe I couldn't see what you were all trying to say!
I think it unchristian not to let the poor emoticons have a christmas holiday, too...they have families they want to be with, you know....
Tee hee. I bet Momma Angel's cooking up a show with Setanta and Dys playing two homeless nonbelievers living like contestants on Fear Factor.

Problem is, MA...you may read, but you neither listen, nor think, as far as I can see.
You have not attempted to address a single point made here, you just continue to say "I know I am right".
How about actually looking at some of the points people have made.

Just what we need. More reality television.
Dlowan, you're right about not using the emoticons on holidays. You should organize that next year. We'd all agree not to use any emoticons at all on Christmas, maybe even Christmas Eve. Circulate a petition! Start a picket line! Maybe we could get little animated symbols of us all marching around with signs...Oh, sh*t, nevermind. I don't think we could express our outrage about the mistreatment of emoticons without using the poor little blighters for it.
