Well it was a normal ceremony. The only very special thing was the presence of the previous world cups winners.

Yes - they didn't produce the originally planned ceremony (by André Heller) .... could damage the lawn, FIFA said ...

I particularly enjoyed the lederhosen and the thigh slapping, Walter.

Unfortunately, I am now too aroused to watch the opening speeches, and will lie down, hoping that I will be OK in time to watch Germany getting beaten by Costa Rica.

OK, now for some predictions, just to see if they come back and haunt me.

The Quarter Finals.

1. France v. Czech Republic.
2. Spain v. Brazil.
3. Argentina v. Germany.
4. England v. Holland.

Players to watch out for.......

Riquelme (Arg)
Messi (Arg)
Nelson Valdez (Paraguay)
Theo Walcott (Eng)
Toni (Italy)
Surprise teams.......could be...... Ivory Coast, Mexico or Ukraine.

Golden boot?......Adriano (brazil).

Let's see how foolish I look in a few weeks time.

Lord Ellpus --- I can clearly remember from my youth an old footballing warhorse who went by the name of Accrington Stanley. A veritable English legend
I wonder where he is now & can save us from Sven

Indeed.

The dastardly Germans have scored.

Scorer - Lahm, the best goal of the tournament, so far.

The best match!!!

Honestly, when have there been three goals in an opening match in the first 20 minutes?

Brilliant game so far, Walter. Schneider is finding SO much room, it's unbelievable.

I don't know whether it's my imagination, but this new style ball doesn't half bounce high.....and gawd, does it swerve. It's a goalkeepers nightmare!

Why didn't anyone tell ME that there was a World Cup thread? I've been posting lonely World Cup things with little response - cos you're all on here!

Is it a conspiracy? GIRLS not allowed? It stinks of testoerone in here anyway. I'd better go, or my breasts will shrink...
