ooof!

If you don't want to be caught up in World Cup madness, then come to
the USA. It's a non-event. Most folks couldn't tell you the names of three
players on the national team. They're probably the best team nobody
cares about. (Though Australia may be right up there as well.)

England are playing Australia in a rugby internation on sunday in sydney.
that will bring a lot more interest for me. hard physical tackling with the players putting body & soul on the line. and no wet nurses or journalists overacting for the occasional injured foot either. just a regular medical team doing a good job.

there are many people who've always thought that soccer was just a game for kids & women. A lot of us men have the same opinion.

Nah, Australia's gone nuts for the socceroos - every channel is having special broadcasts from Germany. And every night in the news bulletin there's at least one story from Ulm (Neeskens pushing to be Hiddink's replacement, Mayor snubbed at welcoming function, 4000 germans watch socceroos train, blah blah blah) Last night on a science show there was even a segment on the probabilities surrounding penalty shootouts and how that could be an advantage to Australia!

Australia 3 Lichtenstein 1

Hiddink not very happy. Nor should he be.

You can also go to Cuba or the Dominican Republic. Baseball land.
I wouldn't be THAT sure about Venezuela, though.

Oh yes, and India... perhaps.

Yes - quite a lot of interest here in the World Cup - seeing as we finally made it.

Soccer (football) is the 4th code of football played here - and the least popular - support wise - although it has quite a wide player base. In 2 of the others we rank as or near world's best. The most popular game is a bit like the American World Series - it's only played iin Oz - but at least we don't call it a World Series.

John - looking forward to Sunday's match - been bloody raining here for the past 2 weeks - so the ground may be slush - we're having English weather - cold and wet! And rain forecast for all the long weekend - some queen's official birthday!

Her Majesty has asked me to pass on to you her sadness that such soggy weather might spoil one's knees up. But she hopes you will all be able to celebrate with her the joyous news of the healing of Mr Rooney's fourth metatarsal.

I've got the dvr set to record all the games for the next 4 days, but the one I'm most excited to see is Argentina vs. Ivory Coast. Should be very interesting.

skimming thru my newspaper, I see that both USA & Iran are playing in the world cup.

Now if it were possible, wouldn't it be interesting if they were to meet up, especialy in the final. It could become something of a Political Football

That was '98. As I recall, the players comported themselves very well on
both sides.
