Btw, Steve - you've been to that hotel where the Poruguese are staying: we couldn't get a table because all were occupied (beside that abbey)

Here is a good picture of the infamous kick from the Argentinian player

Brazil gets desperate and aggressive - lots of fouls and yellow cards.
France is clearly the better team in this game and they hopefully win.

Damn good game that one. If France keeps playing like they did in the last two games, they'll reach the final. Germany v. France in the final!!

They are now my favorite team. And I love Zidane, always have. I'm so glad to see him back.

So the semi-finals will be between

FIFA rank 19 vs. rank 13
(Germany : Italy)

and
8 vs. 7
(France: Portugal)

England, rubbish deserved to got out

Brazil outplayed by France - also deserved to go out.

Semi-finals will be good Germany vs Italy, 2 giant teams France vs Portugal, hard to predict a winner

Finals Germany vs France, result should go germanys way.

I'm sorry, England. My commiserations to you. You did your best. Your supporters are the best. My heart and that of 15 million other Dutchmen went out for you. And I cant believe I now have to look at the face of that resentful, petulant adolescent, that cheating, whiny, two-faced son of a bitch Cristiano Ronaldo for another game. Allez les bleus, give 'em hell!

What sparks your hatred? His good looks?
Ronaldo is playing for Portugal in this WM, and his loyaly is rightfully so with
his Portuguese team mebers and not with Manchester United. He's done
well, no need to slaughter him.

He cheats and dives like otherwise only Figo does. They're the worst two of a team that's collectively acquired a notoriety for cheating and diving this tournament. And thats not just something you hear disgruntled, envious Dutchmen like me say. Cs was just translating a Hugarian article about today's match to me that said the same. Portugal's joined Italy and Argentina now in the top cheaters league.

I gotta say, in that context, that I thought the ref at England-Portugal today was really good. Yes, he denied the English a penalty once, and twice wrongly awarded a free-kick, once to Portugal but also once to England. But overall he gave the impression of having carefully watched the video of the Holland-Portugal game.

In that game, the ref tried to keep control over the game by flyering out cards like confetti, to both teams, totally breaking up the game and only infuriating the players more and fanning the mayhem. This guy was just not fazed by any of the theatrics. (And while last time Holland and Portugal were both guilty, this time, gotta give it to the English, only the Portuguese again and again tried the drama-diving thing).

This ref just wasnt havin it. How many times did you see a Portuguese theatrically slide to the ground, grabbing his legs in utter 'pain', and, finding out the ref just ignored him and the play continued, quickly cobbling up to his feet again? They kept on trying it, too!

Kudos to the ref. I thought the one at France-Brazil was good too. He also seemed to have learned the lesson that focusing on the play continuing, and if need be keeping players apart himself when trouble threatened to break out rather than standing by and just showing cards to everyone, was the best way to stop any slide to chaos. Les' hope France will have the same luck when it faces Portugal.

Oh, and seriously, I think Cristiano Ronaldo looks like a petulant puber
(puber=Dutch word for troublesome adolescent).

Appears he appeals to the same category too: another Hungarian commentator joked that if Portugal is beaten by France in the next round, all the girls under 20 will be crying. He's just a boy, and one that looks like a spoiled brat, at that.

But then hey, dont ask me, Leonardo di Caprio was a hit too (at least to teenage girls..)

Now, if you're talking handsome - Zidane, now there's one handsome man. That face. The confidence and authority. The look like he's been through some and knows what it's all about. And at the same time the twinkle in his eye, like he can smile at everything even as it happens, relativate himself too. He's not pretty, but damn, what an attractive man that is. If I were a woman, I'd go for him.

I'm a soccer fan, but drama and late calls make the game silly.

I'll take American football with replay anyday over the reffing I've seen in the World Cup (and I'm a FIFA certified ref).

HAHAHA soccer fan, its football, don't u forget it, lol, but i have to admit some of the refs have been dodgy at the very least. You wouldn't see that in league games.

Sorry nimh, it wasn't a penalty (on Lennon) it was a fair tackle.

But I thought the referee was poor. I also thought, that England never looked like a team which deserved to be in the semi-final. Top marks for effort, but unfortunately no flair. The Portuguese at times made our players look naive.

The biggest disaster was S G Eriksson. Just exactly what were his tactics supposed to achieve? Still, he can always laugh his way to the bank.
