This is one of the things I like - it has several secret drawers and it holds part of my collection of silver boxes.
Ul, great room, love those book shelves!
That is a gorgeous piece of furniture but I really like all the little lovelies on it. It looks like an altar.
I miss having little things. Little kids and little things just don't mix. I had a lot of little photos - old photos that Mr. B's great grandmother took around their homestead in Wyoming back in 1910 or so. Wonderful things that had to be put away until grubby little fingers better understand their value.
(Damnit soz! Now I'm scooting all of my furniture around.)
ul, that is a gorgeous secretary. Is it an antique?
Boom, I took some photos. Now I just have to get them off he camera.
Weekend started- so time for renovating.
No altar- it is a secretary. The style is called "Biedermeier". Yes, it is an original, manufactored for our great-great -great uncle 1837 in Vienna.
C'mon Swimpy..... we're all waiting.....
I didn't mean altar in the traditional sense, ul, I meant it in more of a place to keep treasures.
It is truly beautiful and the fact that it was made by someone in your family..... wow!
Sun finally came out for a bit today, snapped some pics quickly. Hope they turned out. Should get them developed within a week or so. (I'm gettin' a digital camera eventually...)
grabbed some pix before I headed out to lunch with friends
will try to download a few later
it is fun looking at your own home through a frame
in the back corner of the back bedroom - bookcases - spare bed -stuff -
and a dressed-up dressmaker's Judy
Oh, eBeth! You're just like I'd imagined!
I just knew the first pic would have a hat in it!! (Looking forward to more...)
That is a phenomenal piece of furniture.
Isn't it though?
Just gorgeous.
And amazing that there is so much family history -- built for an ancestor! -- rather than just a random flea market find.
I think I am going to put some photos of my house on this thread. Not today, but sometime in the near future.
on the opposite wall in the book room/ guest room - some old globes and stuff - the little globe is a piggy bank from WWII
the lil vintage wicker basket is full of perfume samples for the guest room 'side' of things
What's the story on that green bowl on the top shelf?
And where are your pictures gustav?
Didn't I just say I would be posting them in the near future, Jane?
Not this near.
Ah yes, I hadn't seen that before.
