Conrad Black, one of the two great figures dominating the conservative media (along with Rupert Murdoch), has been indicted for fraud:

U.S. Attorney General indicts Conrad Black and others on criminal fraud charges

15:47:23 EST Nov 17, 2005

TARA PERKINS

TORONTO (CP) - Fallen Canadian media baron Conrad Black and three other former officers of Hollinger International have been charged with fraud in the United States in connection with an alleged scheme to divert more than $80 million US from the media company.

CBC News story

************************************
We've all seen the nonsense about a "liberal media." But along with Rupert Murdoch, Conrad Black is one of the giants of media ownership, a conservative ownership. Now Black has been indicted for fraud by Patrick Fitzgerald, the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois--the good friend of "Scooter Libby."

Ah, political scandal, ain't it grand?

Rupert Murdoch has his hands both in the 'holy' crowd and the 'smut' crowd. I hope the 'holy' crowd catches on that his News Corporation produces porn.

Conrad is a fascinating character.

He arranged to have one of his longtime friends, Peter C. Newman, served with a lawsuit as they attended a major media event here last night. Didn't like what Mr. Newman wrote about him in his autobiography.

Oddly, Conrad's lawyer didn't know where he was today. The same lawyer said they had to serve Mr. Newman at the party last night since they couldn't find him for a long time. Mr. Greenspan seems to be having trouble locating people lately. Odd as these two in particular are public figures.

don't forget that conrad has/had a great collection of tin soldiers. he used to recreate the battles of the napoleonic wars with his friend hal jackman(former lieutenant-governor of ontario).
jackman donated his collection to the royal ontario museum after the two had a falling out, when jackman accepted the post of L.G. from the new-demoratic (and therefor considered red) premier of ontario, bob rae. hbg

Lord Wellington finally figured out Napolean's strategy whereby he kept a reserve unit hidden that at the crucial moment joined the battle by going to the one of the split front line units to disorient and confuse the enemy and thus route them. Wellington also kept a reserve unit to counter that move. Not only that somehow Napolean lost his touch as his reserve unit didn't do as planned. After losing we got "Able was I 'ere I saw Elba".

That palindrome is an old chestnut--and misused here. Wellington did not confront Napoleon until after he'd escaped from Elba . . .

That's one old chestnut I missed then. It would have made a great conker.

Speculation this morning on the CBC about whether Black will force the U.S. Attorney to have him extradited. Black gave up Canadian citizenship, so he is only a "guest" in Canada. The office of the U.S. Attorney has already issued a warrant for his arrest.

Lord Black also faces civil fraud charges from the US watchdog, the securities and exchange commission, accusing him of treating Hollinger as a "personal piggybank". The scandal effectively sounded the end of Hollinger International, now broken up. The Daily Telegraph was sold to the billionaire Barclay twins.

re Richard Perle...My understanding is that civil fraud charges as above are hanging above our dear neocon friend's noggin, as formerly notified by Fitzgerald's office some months ago.
