edgar - I would have guessed the man to your dad's right. Wowsa. Those are just great! (anthropologist by education, here). 1948 and they knew about big hats and full length shirts and pants. What are they picking? Berries?

Here is another. It's my father in Oregon a few months before he was killed in 1948. He went to Modesto, CA, and a man he was rooming with killed him and dumped him in a river.
I love old photos. Yours is no exception for sure.
It's a sad tale, but an interesting one. Thanks for posting.
It reminds me when I did a history project in highschool about the goldrush here in British Columbia. Lots of neat old photos in my project. Have you heard of Barkerville?

Thanks, I think so, too, for the money I spent. One can always spend more and do beter, but had to think of the budget a bit.
As soon as I figure out all the ins and outs, I'll post some photos.

edgar, what a nice and interesting pic to have of your mom
One of my hobbies is restoring and colorizing old b&w pictures. If anyone here is interested in having one done, let me know...it's free

Yeah, I was originally looking at the 350D model, the one up from that one, but it all added up to more than I wanted to pay.

Hey, nice hobby, 'color'! My wife has been trying to restore our wedding picture. It got damaged in the frame it was originally in by getting spots on it.
She did a great job, but I just found out that my sister (who took the pic) still has a negative, so I think our bacon will be saved.

My mom never liked her wedding picture because she didn't have much of a smile...but I fixed it for her and now she has a nice smile on her face.
Reyn, nice to know there is still a negative for your wedding pic

If I knocked over a Domino's I would be headed to prison, so I guess the bird had it coming.

Wow, you must be quite the handyman! Doing your own siding work. The brick looks nice.
Did you build the house yourself, or you're just fixing it up?

That's an apartment building. I was just re-siding the gable. I don't get that high all that much, but will when need be.

It looks to me like you're putting brick overtop of wood. Is that correct?
Is that usual? I thought brick usually went over cement, or something similar.

The brick stops where you see it on top and the siding, a cedar beveled kind, overlaps it there.

Ah, I see, says the blind man. More than one exterior finish. I don't think I've seen brick mixed with other matrials before.
So, you were in construction at one time?

I have helped in the construction of apartments and have built houses from the ground up. They work you to death for low pay for the most part, unless you find a more cushy job with custom builders.
Then I contracted roofing and remodel work. Since I am too easy going to be good at business, I never made the good money. That's why I am now a maintenance man.
