margo
I've learnt that on September, 2 it's Father's day in Australia.
But up to now, I was rather sure that the first day of spring was the 22nd of September in the Southern hemisphere

So roll on the REAL spring in Melbourne, too!
I long for it! I want it NOW! Soon, soon, please!!!
We have some really nice late-summer days here, with tempartures about 75°F ... in the afternoon: at night, it's as cold as 37°.
Obviously, pools are open a fortnight longer than usually because of the daylight temperatures, and the christmas cookies, they sell in supermarkets, are related to night temperatures.
Or so.
Been in the upper 80° ever since last weekends rains. It is so nice and I officially annouce - no more 100° temperatures this year
We're still in the high eighties range in our area.
... and not eating christmas cookies like I did today, I suppose
christmas cookies? We're still looking forward to Halloween!
Oh, probably about 82 here today. Those soft breezes one associates with early autumn. We should still be up in the nineties, still in serious summer, with heat radiating out of the sidewalk and a hazy glare above. But no, blue skies, scudding clouds again, and silky breezes. Go figure. We Will Pay For This!!
I've never known any lady named Isabel. And I hope my first acquaintance will not be with hurricane Isabel. It's a category 4 or 5. What are y'all doing, aside from watching or ignoring it, to prepare?
Checking my supply of duct tape.
Discussion of Isabel has moved to its own site. This could be bad.
We are hoping it veers north, but we'll still get peripheral rains and wind, better than the entire thing on top of us. That Isabel is a huge monster, no two ways about it.
The five day forecast puts the centre of Isabel's track up here in Ontario. Not a good sign for the coastal areas. Not at all.
Sorry to hear all the news about 'isabel'.
(We are having a great gossamer [Indian Summer, in German: "Altweibersommer" - 'old women summer'] here.)
Actually, we've still got a great Indian summer here also. A little rain yesterday, that's all. Isabel, so far, is just a rumor.
A photo from our newspaper (I always like to mention its name "The Patriot"/'Der Patriot'), taken at one of the small quarry ponds here (this one is partly a bathing/sailing lake as well as a nature resort):
Temperatures yesterday 29° C (84°), today 30° C (86°) - at 8°20'56" E, 51°40'25" N!!!
Here in Vancouver, we had a record-setting summer for hot and dry. It was beautiful. As a consequence, we also had huge forest fire problems with the loss of some 300 or so homes, most of those big fancy homes in a new subdivision.
Then, thirteen days ago, there was the beginnings of the change back to more normal and autumnal weather. My brothers and nephews were golfing that day and the topic of conversation whenever we bumped into other golfers was "well, looks like summer's over". When you live in one climate for much of your life, you really can smell climate changes.
We are now at about 20 (70) in daytime and down to about 8 (50) at night now.
Just back from the (roof-)terrace: sitting half-naked there and eating christmas cookies (covered with terribly melting chocolate) - I felt like being in Australia
Cool. Not much wind. Drizzle. Overcast. Indoors, I might put on a pullover later.
