Boston:

In the 20s right now and we just had another 1-2 inches of wet, mushy snow! Twisted Evil

15-18F -- that should be outlawed! I have never heard of spikes on a bike... so that it has better snow traction. Yikes. Stay home, by the fire, read a book.

Mr.Stillwater -- Is Buster the name of a wind? I read somewhere to be wary of any place that names their wind! You were robbed however -- rain on the way home. That is a typical weather pattern here: nice all week -- then the weekend strikes.

The southerly buster is a really strong, usually dry but cooling, wind from the south.

When I was a kid (almost the year before last Sad ) the buster seemed to come up every day in summer, in the early evening, as regular as clockwork, to cool the place down after the scorching heat . The radio would broadcast it's progress -"the southerly has reached Cronulla..." sort of thing. We'd all sit there sweltering, with all the doors and windows open, waiting for the blessed cooling breeze.

These days, the southerly is nowhere near as predictable, and seems to do much more damage when it does come. Wednesday's southerly did quite a bit of damage to trees and houses, and, I'm afraid, fanned the bushfires, so when we got up on Thursday, the sky was filled with smoke, yet again!

Of course, we're not so desperate for it now. We have air conditioned offices, houses, cars, so we haven't been roasting all day and needing to cool off. Perhaps the buster got the huff because we weren't so desperate, and now only comes to cause trouble, like some bratty kid! Confused

Florida seems to be getting the best of it... that's for sure.

Interesting about the buster being a good thing, Margo. Why is it again, I forget, that people live where it is so darn hot? I don't get it! I really begin to think we were meant to be nomads. For the idea of bike spikes on the other hand... no thanks! Yikes!

We're at a chilly 36F just now but that's because it is clear. For January, I'd say we've had wonderful weather so far, though they say... it will rain tomorrow. Of course it will, it is Saturday! Our high yesterday was 54F.

I am not complaining - walking in this is just fine!
