@JPB,
Nothing like Chicago here in the mountains of Virginia. It is starting to sleet, though, and might continue until tomorrow morning. Driving could be tricky in the morning and there is always the possibility of power outages during the night from falling trees.

@cicerone imposter,
We’re coming into our hot dry season in Florida. Very little rain forecasted. One of the first things I put in was a well in the backyard. I’ll be doing a lot of watering next two months.

@jcboy,
This weather is so boring. High 78, low 68. No rain. No clouds. No nothing. I want a good old fashioned summer thunderstorm. We have two months before thunderstorm season starts.

@jcboy,
what kind of well did you put in? was it a drive point or a wash point?
Are you just going to use it for your garden needs?

@farmerman,
I'm really not sure, I actually have two wells, you can't use it for anything but watering the garden, it has a smell to it, sulphur smell.

@jcboy,
Funny thing about this area and weather ... 'cause about 3 days ago we had a thunderstorm in Sarasota. We had a good solid hour or two of decent rainfall. Two days before we had a shorter rainfall.
I should've sent them both up your way.

next time you consider plants for the garden, look at things that are native to the area - no watering - better for the environment all round

@ehBeth,
that would mostly be grass where I live...

I have a little tiny piece of Florida right here in Kansas.

for 3 months or so...

@Rockhead,
lawn grasses don't like heat

but prairie grasses sure do ... there are some nice prairie lawn covers that are low to the ground AND low maintenance

@ehBeth,
my goats will eat anything. including prairie grass...

and I won't be mowing.

I''ll use the karma credit to plant out of zone a little...

@jcboy,
Now, pay attention. If you live in flat land, say South Florida, and you are on your bike, you are the highest point for miles around Thunderstorms are not your friend.

@roger,
Yes, but it seems in the last 2 yrs I've been here (on the sw coast) luckily for me they've tended to be more of the smaller pop-up type that you can watch march off northward to Tampa or westward (inland). Something about the wind currents seems to shorten their stay. Last summer I could watch and hear them for 2 hrs and sometimes not get hit by them. Weird!

However, put me on a bicycle and lo and behold, I'll get hit by the only bolt of lightning that occurs.

This explains why we're so darn cold this morning. Lake breeze coming in from the east.

@ehBeth,
I really looked into those plants but I thought they were kind of ugly.

We do have two wells, I forget how deep they had to dig for the wells but the pumps work great.

They made me get sink hole insurance though.

@jcboy,
Oh yeah, sinkholes. You just might be coming into some valuable lakeside property.

@roger,
There hasn’t been any sinkholes in this area, I guess the water flows down here, usually the houses in Tampa sink Razz
