I have to get myself a better map! I hope you get to go wherever you want to be, Pueo. It is nice that your company believes in your abilities. I heard the Taipan was an amazingly good place.

Piffka, thanks for your kind words. I am the only non-Japanese senior manager within the company. The owner is Japanese and the president, senior vice president and the other vice president are of Japanese decent. The president, sr. v.p. and the other v.p. are born and raised in Honolulu. As c.i. can tell you, if you are born and raised in Hawaii you are a local no matter your ethnic background. In spite of the fears that were prevalent when Japanese were buying out U.S. companies, our company got much better when the new owner bought out the company several years ago. I think I was tasked with these assignments because I'm used to being on the move and I assimilate well. Just biding my time now, the president has indicated that he will retire within four years. The sr. vp will be retiring soon, and the other vp does not have the respect of the staff or the main office to take the helm. In four years I'll only be 46. If I'm luckily enough to become president, I can just fool around on this site all day. Very Happy

Oh yea, weather, we look like we may be spared the brunt of the typhoon if it keeps on it's current course. Just alot of gale force winds and rain, rain, rain.

Where in tarnation is "Fatu Hiva?" It just goes to show that an experienced traveler doesn't equate to geography knowledge! ;( c.i.

Hi, Rae...

We've lost contact with him when they've had earthquakes down there, but there's a link to a Guam new site that Pueo left on another thread and on the front page of it is a poll asking the local residents if they were prepared for a storm of this magnitude...78% of those who answered said "NO".

I've asked if anyone has heard from him on another A2K thread he was active on, and also left a message asking about him on a thread he'd been active on at Abuzz, so if I hear anything I'll copy and paste that message here.

Hi, Phoenix...

I sent him a PM, too, telling that we're all worried about him and asked him to let us know he's okay as soon as he's able to.

Remember how he said that he expected loss of power. That would affect his computing, and probably also telecommunications. He's likely quite occupied enough now, cooking all the contents of his fridge on the BBQ to consider our group!

Hi, Margo...

That's quite possible...but, the people on the islands had also thought that they weren't going to take a direct hit, and they did.

He probably has no electricity now so we can't expect him to communicate right away. Besides, after a hit like that, I'm sure he has more pressing things to do than think of posting on A2K or Abuzz. I'm sure his people in Honolulu want to know how the Guam operation is doing, for one. But Pueo's a big boy, I'm not really worried about him. (but I will pray.)

Oh no, will hold Pueo in the light. On the up side though is that Guam suffers and has suffered through many Typhoons and they have lots of shelters. They are really more prepared than Florida is for Hurricanes.

Joanne, I happened to see a show today about all types of storms and they said that hurricanes were, in fact, the most devastating of all (including typhoons and tornadoes).
