Ah, that's what I thought but I wasn't sure.

Why did the hurricane force gas prices up?
any event anytime anywhere from now on will make gas proces rise and there will be an explanation for it.
So you are saying that it's just someone getting rich off of someone elses misfortune?
Report this morning was that there was no damage to the rigs and production would resume.
Bet the prices go up to pre-hurricane OMG disaster prices anyway, even though production will resume sooner than expected.
Prices DID go up here. From $2.59 to $2.79.
Bella Dea wrote:So you are saying that it's just someone getting rich off of someone elses misfortune?
I'm saying it's specifically bush and his band of merry men and contributors....... same ones getting rich off Iraq.... oh yeah, and Afghanistan....let's don't forget the Caspian gas pipeline.....
So,since some of you seem to want and like the high gas prices, that must mean that you wont complain about the rising cost of home heating oil,the rising cost of everything in your grocery store, the rising cost of gasoline for your car, etc.
You must be tickled pink that all prices for everything will go up.
No, we are not tickled pink. Just better to pay somewhat more now and make some adaptation than to get slammed with $5.00 or 6.00 later. These adaptations do take time to impliment.
You can't simply state "I need (fill in blank), so someone must provide."

Why not?
There are many on the left that do just that.
I need free medical care,so you must provide.
I need a free college education,so you must provide.
I need a fully paid retirement,so you must provide.
Oh, Jesus, get off it.
The price of gasoline going up isn't a good thing for anyone in the short term, but may be extremely beneficial for all of us in the long term. That's what we're saying.

Thats NOT what JoefromChicago said.

That's the jump they made here. A full $.20/gal.
That is such horse shyte. Seriously.
This is one thing that I am definitely willing to sacrifice for. If the outcome of higher prices is that we find alternative sources of energy and/or build more efficient vehicles, then I will sacrifice for that.
I have trouble with instant gratification. I have a hard time looking to the future. Unfortunatly, I am being dragged along with this gas crap against my will. I suppose I will have to adapt.
If more people start to understand that they need to live on a smaller footprint, and are inconvenienced during a transition period, so be it.
I changed how I garden, so that I don't have to water.
I changed how the toilet flushes, so it uses less water.
I changed my job, so I can take transit to work now.
I bought a bicycle to use for some of my shorter excursions.
I've got one of the most efficient cars, short of a hybrid, that is out there.
I'll likely move to a hybrid next.
I turned up the temp at which the a/c comes on, and turned down the furnace temp - and my energy costs are still going up.
Some of the changes are annoying, but I figure I've got to do it. Can't fuss about things if I'm not willing to make the changes.
<and people need to pay for their own education and retirement>

Glad you stated my point. I didn't want to have to say it.
This, and several other discussions, has been a real watershed in terms of who really stands where.

Joe, I won't bore you with the details of my 14 year career in California before I retired and moved to New Mexico. My job included community design and planning, conservation of resources, including a wild life preserve and water quality. Also best land use, transporation within the community, anti-polution work, etc.
If you ever visit the San Francisco Bay Area, you are welcome to visit that Island in the Bay, Alameda and Bay Farm Island to see what we achieved.
I understand what you are promoting and I agree with most of what you propose---except you have to be aware of and sensitive to the fact that not all of are alike in our physicial abilityies, our financial status and how it affects our lives, etc.
Raising the price of gasoline is the worst way to extract reform because it adversely affects all of us, but especially the poor. The government, both state and federal could force industries to change, but they don't because those industries contribute too much political money. As long as our political system is corrupt, change won't occur.

Are you saying that I'm wrong?
Are you going to say that there ARENT people on the left side of the political spectrum that arent saying that?
Exactly what Is your point?
MM, I think Roger is agreeing with you. Don't snap.
