It really is devistating for me. Just within 2 weeks, it's costing me $40 more a week just to get to work.

This $2.00 increase in just 2 weeks is devistating for everyone like me who simply live from pay to pay.

Thank god my house and car are paid!

News reported today that city buses are set to run extended routes due to the gas shortage. Will connect Raleigh, Durham / Chapel Hill/ RTP which covers three counties to which many people commute for work.

No idea how they will work it or get the info out to people (train them to read a bus schedule) but I am amazed they pulled it off in two days!

Will be interesting to see how many take advantage. These are mostly high end commuters, so they may just choose to take vacation time and not worry about it.

Still a start, though.

It's a big start. If the market is there it will work. If they would still rather drive, it won't. It's fast work, in any case, and I hope it becomes a habit.

I wish I had a bus available to go to work. This may just start a whole new bus fad.

I know I would welcome a bus in my area!

Random educated guess says that 89%+ of these people haven't ridden a bus since grade school. Really hoping they consider it and give the program a try.

But, then again, it was just announced that our school buses only have another couple days worth of gas and then they won't be able to operate.

(kids may get their wish)

3.18 this morning, up .19 from yesterday pm in nw New Mexico. The bike had a low tire yesterday, or I would have used it in the afternoon. Walking is okay, but pushing a bike just sucks.

Yeah, that sucks. The other day I got a flat out on the trail and had to walk the bike 3 miles due to a lack of a pump. Not cool.

In Austin gas is still a cheap $2.79. Now that I'm done saying that I'm gonna go throw up.

Yarch. that's what, a 60 cent increase in Kansas this week?

Sheesh. I can't stop thinking about the billions of dollars in handouts to the oil companies in the last energy bill.

Yeah, boom. We have six workover rigs, not counting the brand new one as of Tuesday, that haven't been down for lack of work in the past six years.

Coming into the thread without reading prior postings:

Bottled water costs more per gallon than gas.

Gas is pretty cheap...it's the taxes politicians tag on to it that makes it expensive.

Heavy taxes on gasoline proves that #$@&'n politicians would tax sex if they could figure out a way to track it.

We must have gas and therefore governmental parasites tax it.

Nicotine addicts must have cigarettes and therefore governmental parasites tax it.

Alcoholics must have booze and therefore governmental parasites tax it.

It is a wonder that there are not heavy taxes on diapers, milk, and bread.

For all you Greenies out there...European countries do not pay two to three times more than we do for gas so that they can promote conservation. They do so because the require a huge influx of tax dollars to pay for their Euro-Socialist programs.

Strip the taxes from gas and we would all be paying less than $1.00 per gallon.

Really? Oil above $66.00 per barrel. 42 gallons per barrel. A barrel refined completely to gasoline and transported half way around the world, and it comes to less than $1.00 per barrel. Lemme see, that comes to - well, a pretty good deal.

In which US state(s) do(es) federal and state gassoline taxes combined ammount to more than 50 cents a gallon?

Given that gassoline supply is fixed for the short term, wouldn't a reduction in gas taxes just leave the producers that much richer?

I mean, you've written some idiotic sh*t before, Finn, but this takes the cake.

Quote:
Bottled water costs more per gallon than gas.

Really? I bought a gallon of water at the store the other week, WITH CONTAINER, for less than one dollar - .99.

I bought 5 GALLONS, providing my own container (water-cooler jug), for $1.50. That puts the average price of a gallon of water, without container, at .25.

And you're telling me that bottled water costs more per gallon than gasoline? That gasoline really costs less than .25 a gallon, and that the rest is in taxes? Really?

Do you read what you write before you post?

Sheesh.

Cyclo,
Go to the store and buy a bottle of Evian,or any of the other bottled waters that people buy for drinking.
It will be more then a gallon of gas.
