What will happen to Alex Jones and Infowars if they doesn't, can't, refuses, etc., to pay the nearly $4 Billion?

If they both declare bankruptcy, is jail time in the future?

@Mame,
No, the victims will go through civil court to seize his assets.

@engineer,
So no jail time? That would be more appropriate for that guy. Thanks for answering, engineer.

@Mame,
As much as you'd like it to happen in this case, debtor's prison was abolished a long time ago.

Charles Dickens wrote about it a lot as his father spent time in such places.

Alex Jones is a disgusting POS, unfortunately it will probably take a few years before any of those families see any money. That jackass used free speech to slander dead and innocent children. That has consequences.

He's screwed, he thought he could Trump his way out of it.

Trump's screwed, too. Trump is going down the same way. Just going to be a deeper drop and a bit longer getting there.

@engineer,
They shouldn't have to, the criminal court that imposed the fine should have that power.

I think the same may be true over here too.

Just saying.

@izzythepush,
We screwed up in this nation. Nobody really thought we'd ever have a President like a Trump. There are so many legal loopholes to close, it's almost unbelievable.

Concerned about the implications for speech. It’s ridiculously excessive.

@Lash,
It's not free speech, it's slander, it's lies.

It's not about uncovering some shady government/big business conspiracy, it's about deliberately spreading lies and misinformation in order to sell a load of dodgy merchandise and chase ratings.

What he put the parents of the murdered children through is inexcusable.

It's got **** all to do with free speech, and those who call it such value lies as much, if not more, than the truth.

@izzythepush,
I don't think she said 'free' speech - I think she was just saying that 'speaking' has its consequences. If you're on any public forum today, you're fair game from somebody.

@Mame,
Yes, you're right.

The only defence infoshit had was free speech.

That can't be it, it was his sole justification for all the nasty lies.

There has to be more than that. If your only argument is free speech you have no argument at all.

@izzythepush,
You are free to make any sort of speech you want without prior restraint. That's all free speech is about. Once that speech is made, there may be reactions from applause to arrest. That is what the SCOTUS is about. To determine if the speech of an arrested person was protected speech or not.

Most Americans just do not get it.

I’ve agreed many times in these pages that the marketplace may exact a price on speech, but a billion dollars? For stupid words?

Again, excessive.

@Lash,
It's not for "stupid words" it's for the effect those words had.

I think he's got off lightly.

He should be made to feel the same fear and despair he forced them to endure.

I hope he turns it into a process squeezing dollars for a turnip.

You're failing to understand that not all speech is protected. Child porn, snuff films, revenge porn, the nuclear codes to the US arsenal, calling for violence and a coup d'etat, ... need I add more to the pretty long list?
