Should we handle victory the way the Christian god decrees?

Apologies. I was confused by this statement:

You create the straw man when you assign the guilt for human misery to God and not to his resister, Satan.

We all want to attack the perpetrator of evil. Just make sure you get the name straight.

So, what is your position, exactly? Do you say that Moses was genuinely speaking the word of God? Or was he mistaken?

Naw, Frank doesn't like anybody who isn't impressed with his bullying pomposity, or those who don't find his bitter-old-man-wit charming.

Gee, now all we need is for Momma Angel to pop in and congratulate Snood for making his usual contribution to a discussion.

Your contribution is noted and filed. Thank you for your well thought out and significant response.

How about taking a slight time out from bashing on Frank and comment on his questions that opened this topic.

Quote:
At Deuteronomy 20:10 the god decrees:

"When you march up to attack a city, first offer terms of peace.
If it agrees to your terms of peace and opens its gates to you,
all the people to be found in it shall serve you in forced labor.
But if it refuses to make peace with you and instead offers you
battle, lay siege to it, and when the Lord, your God, delivers it
into your hand, put every male in it to the sword, but the women
and children and livestock and all else in it that is worth
plunder you may take as your booty and you may use this plunder
of your enemies which the Lord, your God, has given you."

QUESTION; How many of you think we should have acted as the god of the Bible suggests after World War II? The Germans and Japanese refused to "open their gates to us" and instead "offered battle."

When we defeated them...should we have gone in and killed every last male (of more than a child's age)...and put all the women and children into lifelong slavery?

How would you have felt if some leader of the Allies suggested such a course of action?

Or perhaps we could even take it a step further and do as God instructed Moses in Numbers 31.

Numbers 31:17-19
Quote:
Num 31:17 - Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

Num 31:18 - But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

Source for the full context.

That was Moses instructing what to do with captives from a battle.

Hey, answer Phoenix32890's question. What's the difference?

OOOOOh, Frank might go to hell as a result of dissing your unconditionally loving, all-knowing being so many believe him to be, or maybe your unconditionally loving, all-knowing being so many believe him to be will visit some other vengeance upon him even while he is in our midst so as to show us what could happen if the unconditionally loving, all-knowing being so many believe him to be gets pissed off.

Maybe He will smote him with a parasite that blinds millions of people. No, He already does that but only to innocent people, for them God is just being cruel, for Frank He'll have to really work something special up. How about cancer? No, too common. Migraines? Nah, he's just get drugged up.

I know. He'll reveal Himself to be the unconditionally loving, all-knowing being so many believe him to be to Frank through the thoughts and actions of His followers. Frank will either accept the reality of the unconditionally loving, all-knowing being so many believe him to be, or drop dead on the spot.

Joe(He's still okay either way)Nation

So far...none of the Christian enthusiasts have bothered with the questions, Mesquite.

I have some guesses as to why that is.

I suspect you do also.

As to Phoenix' "what's your point"?...
For those quick to jump on anything as another indication that God is a petty tyrant, let me say that my intention was not to say that god would be "pissed". My "point" is that if anyone gets faced with a love of a certain size and depth, they will be hard pressed to hold on to, or explain any bitterness toward it.

Even someone as hardhearted and headed as Apisa.

Frank,
I addressed your questions and you dismissed them with your usual style. I also posted with a question of my own that you have failed to give an answer to. I have some guesses as to why that is.

Intrepid...you "addressed" them????? (Why did a picture of Ed Norton "addressing" a golf ball come to mind?)

You dodged my questions, Intrepid. DODGED THEM. You have NEVER answered them....and you know it. (Just to check, I actually went back and read your responses in this thread. Go back yourself...and you will see that all you did was to dodge the questions.)

Here are the questions again...just in case you want to be the FIRST Christian apologist to actually answer them:

I have no idea of what in hell you are talking about. Repeat the question and I will answer it. I don't dodge questions.

Mesquite, I find that quite rude. You have no problem jumping in there patting old Frankie on the back now do you?

And, as far as I am concerned, Frank gets what he asks for. He treats those that do not agree with him or share his "guesses" as lower than second class citizens.

And I think Frank was more than rude with the #$%^ off boy comment. That is totally uncalled for. Perhaps Snood could have not used such strong language but it appears it's the only kind Frank seems to understand.

I think Frank relishes in the fact that he can get a rise out of some people.

So Snood, kudos to you! If Frank continues to act the way he does, he is going to have to expect to garner some of the reactions he gets. So, Frank, put on your big girl panties and deal with it!

Snood, still looking for some soldiers' addresses!

Mesquite,

Please do not misunderstand. Foul language is not appropriate for anyone to use. I guess I did not make that clear enough.

I applaud Snood for his willingness to stand up for what he believes and not be afraid to voice his opinions.

And thanx for the welcome back. I really did miss everyone. I haven't read all the threads completely, as I just skimmed most of them. I just happened to catch the one you put in about all you needed. Laughing

I don't have a problem with Frank voicing his opinions, Mesquite. No problem at all. Just a problem with the fact that unless you agree with him, he resorts to telling you that you don't understand, can't debate, etc. There is no need for that. I have read posts of his that were quite charming. I really feel if he could utilize his charm more, he might, just might get his point across a bit more. And please do not misunderstand that remark. I shudder to think that anyone would want to follow what he "guesses" at. But, when he starts that "bombing the clinic" method, I usually don't get any point other than he is bombing the clinic.

And, I must admit, I have a soft spot for our service men and women. There are a few things in this world that get my hackles up and saying anything to a soldier that may even slightly seem disrespectful is something I cannot abide. (Not that Snood needs my help. He does very well on his own in handling Frank.)

So, on with the games!
