Should we handle victory the way the Christian god decrees?

The Sarah story only makes sense if god promised her that she would live to see her child mature into a decent human. Beyond that, what 90-yeaer old wants to take care of a baby?

I submit that when you make comments such as;

"I will not speak against our President. I am proud to be an American. I am proud to call Mr. Bush president."

that you HAVE gotten into the politics of this war with both feet. This war defines president Bush. He has called himself the "war president". This was his dream from the day he entered office. From the premature "mission accomplished" to the boastful "bring it on" to the current refusal to say oops sorry about that, this has been his war. Stating that you are proud to call him President is equivalent to giving a wink and nod to this war.

Englishmajor,

Aren't you just the sweetest thing? Now you think all I read is paperbacks. What a lovely person you are. A poll of 1,000 people? Well, I wasn't one of them and no one speaks for me but myself.

C.I.,

If you knew anything about the people in the old testament you would realize that they lived to be very, very, very old. 90 years old in that time is probably more like today's middle age. I would think someone who believes themself as intelligent as you obviously do, would know that, dear.

Mesquite,

Nope. Just because I won't speak against the president or discuss the politics of the war does not mean I either give a wink or a nod or I don't. I don't get into the politics. It's just that simple.

I have to disagree with you there Momma Angel. I was NOT remarking about your refusal to discuss the politics of the war or your refusal to speak against the president. I was remarking about your PROUDNESS to call MR Bush president.

Perhaps I should have abreviated your quote to;

I am proud to call Mr. Bush president

but I thought the intent of my post was obvious.

Another fiction from the bible about people living to be close to 200 years old.

Fact: Human longivity has been increasing as medical science has improved.

Fact: Human recorded history about the oldest human puts it about 125 years old.

Fact: Many in Africa has a life expectancy of 40 years - today.

Fact: Japan's life expectancy is one of the longest in today's world.

Fact: Ramses II lived to be over 90 years old, but the average life expectancy during his rein was 40.

C.I.,

I didn't try to use the Bible to prove the Bible. I was just pointing out that it said that people lived well beyond 90.

Funny, you seem to take part of the Bible as fact. At least that's how you define God, isn't it?

So, what makes what part of the Bible ok for you to point out and what not to point out?

Fact: The Old Testament is part of the bible.
Your claim: "...they lived to be very, very, very old. 90 yars old in that time is probably more like today's middle age." blah blah blah...

"Try looking up Methuselah in the Bible." blah blah blah

Logic: You cannot use the bible to prove the bible.

Hi Frank,

This is an epic thread, one that I have followed from page one. Thank you.

May I suggest that you're being too kind about this Sarah business. You have allowed for this story, occupying a few sparse verses in Genesis 17, to be an exception to your challenge to not find a threatening god on the scene.

It was even posited by MA that Sarah, 90 years old, was wanting a child. There is nothing in those verses to support this. I agree with Phoenix, what 90 year old woman would wish for this? What a burden.

Where is the kindness in this story? I wish you would retract your exception.

Regards,

tycoon

Some people only view things as their narrow views today will allow. Why is 90 years of age old for that time? People are listed as living hundreds of years. Why put your concept of time on something that you know nothing about? Frank's exception? Frank is not ruler of the universe. Frank does not have all of the answers. Laughing

You have a way of taking what people say and putting it out of context. You should roll on the floor laughing. It is easier than writing a sensible post.

C.I.,

I am glad you are having such a good time. Then, I suggest if you cannot use the Bible to prove the Bible, that you stop posting anything about it and telling us that is what God is like.

I still think you might want to look up the word hypocrisy after you look up fear in relation to God. But, you aren't quite given to looking at your own mistakes are you?

Exactly, Momma. He uses the bible to try to disprove the bible but jumps on you if you use the bible. Hypocrite is too subltle. Rolling Eyes

I'd just be thrilled if just once he would acknowledge ONE single mistake. But, actually, his silence speaks volumes!

Intrepid,

Actually, I am starting to feel sorry for him. How sad it is that he doesn't have the courage of his own convictions enough to admit he can make a mistake.

And they say I have blinders on!
