I doubt we'll see a pardon just yet.

Fitzgerald speaking on the steps at 5:05 eastern.

Cheers!

ps - those who said Libby was innocent of the crime? You were all wrong. Spectacularly wrong.

Except that your context differs mightily from my context.

Nice try, though...

(from the LATimes)
As the verdict was read, Libby's wife and one of the jurors started sobbing.

------

Now WHY would that juror start sobbing? Seems odd.

Noone wants to send someoen to jail; they only do it because they feel they have to.

That seems like such a peculiar thing to suggest. Maybe I take this sort of thing too seriously.

I agree, it is not as though he's going to get the needle or anything like that. Probably won't even be as long Martha Stewart's sentence. I doubt anyone else gets anything, mores the pity.

Well, the jury has spoken, and the legal system worked.

But,I wouldnt hold my breath waiting for Bush to pardon Libby.
IF he does,it most likely wont be till he leaves office, when he is free to pardon anyone he wants.

BTW,I would have said the legal system worked if Libby had been aquitted also.
Would those of you on the left have said the same thing if he had been aquitted?

Any verdict other than a hung jury is proof the legal system works. The legal system 'working' doesn't bring about a desired verdict, but a verdict.

I'll accept that, but let me rephrase the question.

If you are happy that the legal system worked and convicted Libby, would you also have been happy that the system worked if they had aquitted him?

I'm happy that the system works at all - a hung jury or mistrial would have been worse than an acquital, in my opinion.

Would I have been as pleased as I am now? Of course not, but that's due to my personal opinions about the scumbag nature of the Bush administration.

I would have said that the legal system worked. Unlike having a special prosecutor waste countless millions of American's tax dollars investigating a President's penis, we had a classic prosecution case which was methodically presented by the stellar talents of Patrick Fitzgerald, who honestly believes that no public official should be above the law.

But we all knew what the outcome would inevitably be. The obvious can sometimes dictate that. I'm glad to see that the legal system still works when it has to in the interests of the American people.
