I need no tutoring from you on the way America elects a president. I know all about the Electoral College, thank you.

The fact remains that the voters in Florida, where Dubya's brother is governor, were NEVER certain of the correct outcome of their votes.

The fact also remains that a mandate of popular votes was given to Al Gore in the 2000 election. The fact still remains that the U.S. Supreme Court interceded in the "election" of Dubya under questionable circumstances.

I appreciate your tutorial, max, but you wasted your time typing it. Dubya's "election" will always bring reminders of voter fraud, etc. It is an "election" that will live in infamy. But, max, don't blame me, I voted for Gore.

So much for political science.

Well said!

In fact it's SO well said that it deserves to be seen a again.
(hence the quote)

The range of choices was 1-10 so I stayed within that. I gave Bush a '2'
only because I thought '1' should be reserved for Richard Nixon.

On reflection I have decided that I was wrong. Bush is worse than Nixon.
IMO he's the worst president that this country has ever had.

Ok, I was gonna let it go, but since the pumpkin kid has seen fit to quote it again, I changed my mind.

You SAY you understand the electoral college, billhank, but while you are espousing your understanding you speak of "mandates" of popular votes and "questionable" circumstances.

If you fully understood the electoral college, you would realize that the popular vote is immaterial, but you bring it up.

As to the Supreme Court, what they did was unprecedented, but in no way questionable.
It was the only just decision based upon the law at the time of the election.

This is true regardless of who benefited from the decision.

Pumpkin Kid eh? . . . grrrrrrr!

Well, notwithstanding the picture I'm no kid . . .

I'm no pumpkin either though I've been told
(I can't remember by whom) that I have 'Squash rot.'

jjorge, I was trying to imply that this discussion about the 2000 election results is pretty far off-topic, although I realize you didn't start it.

I invite anyone who'd like to take up this topic to start a new article to debate the issue, where I'm sure it will receive all the attention it deserves.

The question here is "How would you currently rate George W. Bush in his role as U.S. president?" This is meant to bring up issues people here feel are important factors towards their support/mistrust/disdain/etc for Bush at this point in history.

I voted 4, but after further thought I think I'm leaning more towards a 3.

I voted a 2, just because I'm an optimist and it can always get worse.
It can always get worse right? Can't it?
Let's not think about it too much and focus on the positive...

We could separate church and state again.
We could learn a little diplomacy and tact.
We might restore our global diplomatic connections and goodwill.
We could find alternatives to oil consumption.
We might work in partnership with the world.
We could increase resources for education.
We might teach people employable living skills.
We could counteract big-time advertising with critical thinking.
We might create an independent and informative mass media.
We could butt out of our citizens personal lives.
We might
We could
Really we could
It's possible.
Somehow.
Don't you think?

The future has so many more wonderful possibilities now than it did before.
So I gave him a 2.

lowan, CodeBorg's post sums up my issues pretty well I think. I don't agree with much that Bush is doing, but it could be a lot worse. I downgraded to a 3 because his apparent lack of perception makes me think he's capable of fulfilling that.

I voted a 2 because he has squinty eyes. That's all.
Oh, and he kills people.

I needed a bit of help with this one. So.....................................

I had a look at this site http://66.70.168.235/august/prez_iq.html

G W Bush I.Q 91
G H W Bush I.Q. 98
B Clinton I.Q. 182

Then I found this one --- http://www.atimealone.com/IQtest.htm

For the meantime I'll vote, erm...... 1 for effort.

The result of the vote is a forgone conclusion since the majority of the participants on this forum are liberally inclined. They are indeed not a representative cross section of the American public. It is tantamount of asking the chickens if they want the foxes to guard the chicken coop.

au, I voted minus 20 for GWBush, not because I'm a liberal, but because GWBush has not shown anything that earns anything more. All the reasons he and his administration has used to justify this war has been unproven to be true. Millions of Americans are losing their jobs. The stock market has seen the worst bottoms during his tenure for the past five years. He has been successful in starting a war that will kill many innocent people - not only Iraqi's, but the people of the military on both sides. This war will cost billions that can be used more effectively at home. What is there that is positive about this president? c.i.
