The ironic thing is - this is almost the same attitude one has in trying to encourage one to join their church, their religious group, or to be "born again" you see the good person inside and feel if they can just open their eyes they can be saved --

In this case be saved from a cult-like situation

Who is this pen pal that influences him that way?

He has a number of Christian correspondents who talk to him online, advising him on what to do, how to act etc.

When he's not ignoring a question he has said he will wait to see what these Christians say and for him that's the definitive answer..
