@Mame,
I don't know about mainland Europe, but I doubt many of us could name the French president, let alone the Canadian one.

@bobsal u1553115,
I'll clarify:

The dichotomy between Afghanistan and Ukraine is a way in for me, to make a judgement call about Biden; if there wasn't the dichotomy, in question, I'd find it much harder to invoke Biden's presidency

@Mame,
Most people have a basic understanding of Geography, but World leaders other than Russia, China USA are unknown unlesss it's someone like Angela Merkel who was leader for years on end.

Her successor remains unknown.

@Walter Hinteler,
Quote:
Military analysts at the Bundeswehr [German armed forces] interpret several reports of alleged security incidents in eastern Ukraine as a deliberate disinformation campaign to justify Russian intervention. A confidential military intelligence analysis released Monday said "staged incidents" over the weekend were intended to increase "legitimacy for official intervention at any time."

The analysis examined alleged incidents such as an attack on the Donetsk police chief, the sabotage of a chemical plant in Horlivka, and an attack on an oil pipeline near Luhansk. In all three examples, he said, it was clear that the incidents were staged. For one thing, the police jeep shown was ancient and consequently not the car of the head of the authorities. The other videos, according to the metadata, were recorded days before the alleged acts.

According to the paper, the staged incidents "almost certainly" suggest a "hybrid campaign planned on the part of Russia or at least coordinated with Russia." The fact that the staging of the alleged security incidents is so easy to debunk is seen by the experts as a sign that "the target group is not the West with its critical and independent media."

I think, the next step could be an attempt by Russia to expand the territory controlled by pro-Moscow separatists, since the historic borders of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions are much larger than the exiting pro-Moscow-run areas. Key Ukrainian cities include the port city of Mariupol, Kramatorsk – where Ukraine’s army has its eastern HQ – and numerous villages.

Well, all the reporting says that Ukraine officials are encouraging NATO and US not to wait until after the attack to impose sanctions.

Since they have the only real skin in the game, shouldn’t their words matter?

@snood,
A week ago the Ukraine president was chiding Biden for over-blowing it. Now that there's been some shelling at the border, he's changing his tune. Go figure.

Still, they are wanting the sanctions before the invasion. It is their people who are under the gun.
And as far as withholding the sanctions so as not to give Putin impetus for invading…
Putin is NOT someone who needs any impetus.

Traitorous wench Tulsi Gabbard is a guest speaker at the next CPAC.
I remember some “progressives” here who used to talk about what good ideas she had.

@Thomastrokan33,
I have no idea what you are trying to say here: "The dichotomy between Afghanistan and Ukraine is a way in for me, to make a judgement call about Biden; if there wasn't the dichotomy, in question, I'd find it much harder to invoke Biden's presidency"

You seem to say you want to make a judgement call about Biden, but what do you mean by "invoke Biden's presidency"?

The coverage of the impending (some are saying already started) attack just makes me shake my head… at the focus.
It’s all about the political ramifications. “A bloody war with mass casualties at this point would really hurt Putin’s position, and how he is perceived”. “ If it turns into a bloody war, the economic consequences will be severe.”

They talk about the mass death of human beings like they are just incidental.

The human lives at stake should be the point.

Sadly, people have always been expendable, second place to the almighty $ and power grabs.
