@InfraBlue,
Yeah. Taliban forces want to take over the whole Middle East as well as some parts of China. It's not a joke, mind you.

@goldberg,
Full-scale wars were abject failures in Iraq and Afghanistan. America's had its fill of those fiascos.

I hope they take the lesson and make peace with Iran.

@InfraBlue,
Not really. It could have been worse without military intervention in the Middle East. Despots and baddies like Saddem Hussein and Bin Laden can be found everywhere in Muslim nations. Still remember what Saddem Hussein did to Kuwait? The oil-rich Middle East is still a place that's worth fighting for.

@edgarblythe,
Iran is a lone wolf in the Middle East, largely because this nation champions the so-called Shia Islam, as opposed to Sunniism. Iran is also the backer of several terrorist groups hating America and its allies.

@goldberg,
"Could have been" is an inane game that ignores the reality of the military interventions being abject failures that exacerbated the problem of terrorism.

@InfraBlue,
But America didn't and doesn't have other better alternatives. You can't let terrorists control global oil supply. Remember the 1973-74 oil crisis that convulsed Western nations?

There you go. But the war between them lasted eight years.

Don't forget Turkey and Qatar. They have been working together to help terrorists in Libya.

@MontereyJack,
1. United States
Located in the Northern Hemisphere and bordered by Mexico and Canada, the United States is now the largest oil-exporting nation in the world. The U.S. exported 18.6 billion barrels of oil per day, on average, in 2020, or 20% of global exports. The country has posted an increase of close to 500% in its international sales of crude oil since 2014, according to recent statistics.

@goldberg,
The '73 oil crisis wasn't about terrorists controlling global oil supply; it was an attempt by OAPEC to punish and pressure certain countries for their support of Israel.

@goldberg,
That doesn't negate the fact that Iran isn't, as you allege, a "lone-wolf in the Middle East largely because this nation champions the so-called Shia Islam," however.

@InfraBlue,
What difference does it make? I have a feeling that the Taliban even have lots of financial backers in nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and even Turkey , despite such nations claim to be America's allies.

More to the point, the Taliban have made a bundle selling drugs, which suggests that it has built a trading route or network in the Middle East, through which it trades drugs for either money or weaponry.

@InfraBlue,
I remember reading a book written by someone working at the New York Times. The author argues in the book that both Saudi Arabia and Pakistan are linked to terrorism. At the very least, Saudi Arabia still makes a point of promoting Wahabbism; it also helps other nations build more mosques, according to several books featuring Muslim nations.

What I'm trying to say is the Taliban have other Muslim nations helping it make money. I'd say Pakistan would be a perfect partner for Taliban forces since the impecunious Pakistan could profit from drug sales.

I truly think that America still gets duped by Muslim nations. They actually belong to the same team when it comes to seeing off foreign forces in the Middle East, including Iran.

Israel is the only loyal friend in that region.
