@MontereyJack,
America did nothing wrong. If hadn't been for America, more Afghans and foreigners would have been killed. Worst yet, the Taliban would have invaded other nations if America had shied away from curbing its expansionist policy.
That said, America appears to have made two mistakes: 1:it still thinks Pakistan could be a helping hand. 2:Baradar shouldn't have been released.
There are indications that Pakistan happens to be a terrorist nation, and lots of Muslim thugs would prefer to take shelter there; that's why bin Laden chose to hide there before getting zapped.
Moreover, Pakistan has been a foe of India despite being a weakling. Thus it needs military support for this reason. America, which deems India an ally, is loth to side with Pakistan over its territorial conflict with India. That seems to have offered other foreign powers a chance to roil the stability of Afghanistan and even sabotage America's peace-keeping efforts. Yes. I'm talking about Russia. Don't overlook the fact that Pakistan often buys weapons from Russia; China also reportedly sold military drones to Pakistan, according to Newsweek.
That's why Pakistan can't be a trustworthy partner for America when it comes to eradicating terrorism as a terrorist nation.
