Lola at the Newly Franchised Coffee House (part 2)

Anybody remember those coffee commercials with the jingle "The best part 🎵of waking up!!!! 🎶Is Folgers in your 🎶cup🎡.............I seem to smell a chemical scent from decaf coffee, and the aroma turns me off. The high test is always a pleasant aroma.

I’m just curious. Does that scent somewhat resemble lighter fluid or dry cleaning a bit?

There are several ways to remove caffeine, so I’ve learned. Generally, it can be done with CO2.. However some with evil intentions use solvents like methylene chloride. Benevolent brands use Swiss water processing which is quite harmless. I can attest this process still allows good coffee flavor. I sometimes mix my coffee with (SWP) half decaf. Peet’s Big Bang decaf, to be exact.


For real coffee taste (whole caffeine) variety, I switch over to a yummy Georgia mail order brand called Volcanica Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, medium roast whole bean.

FWIW, Methylene chloride or dichloromethane has an ether-like sweet smell.

The decaf that Rodney buys smells slightly like the tinny smell when you open a can of pineapple juice, or pineapple rings.

I just go for straight chloroform myself 😖😵😳💀

Coffee's supposed to wake you up. Is that cloroform about the same?

Gotta tell you, that sounds like something you might do with a horse with a broken leg.

I sometimes wonder if this old horse needs to be put down......

Our plants here in the Lola Coffee House are properly caffeinated.

I always thought you smoked angel dust? Oh well, I'll have an extra large cup - hot and bold; and, a blunt - long and fat.

Today was such a nice, nice day. Cobbler was celebrating a 4 AA birthday, my sister in law is visiting (the good one) and my wife and I are having a continuous 25th wedding anniversary. Never thought I would see this day. Especially after my third or was it fourth went belly up. Ahh yes, there is something to say for 30 years of sobriety.........then, Bernie sent his post earlier today, oh so sad!!!! I feel if I don't think about it, it will become a non fact and go away - as we can do with so many things on these threats. But this is a fact and I must face it, cause if I stifle it, it can cause drinking. OK, I accept it and know this too will pass and if I am not mistaken the sun will come up in the morn. Farewell, farewell, farewell!!!!!!!!!

A bit of very sad news...from Blatham.

His ex-wife, Jane, (known here in A2K as Lola, and the original proprietor of Lola's Cafe) passed away just a few hours ago.

Many of us knew her personally...and used to party with her and Bernie. She was a great person...and we will miss her a lot.

The Coffee House has lost its proprietress.

It's up to us to carry on.

Drinks are on me today.

I take my coffee black, no sweetener. I was disgustipated that the store raised the cost of my preferred brand a whole dollar this week. Still, it's better than buying out.

I've only just seen this. Very sad news.
