i was asked to do a taped interview by drew griffin, when he was with kabc, in my own office a few years ago. i was given a quick touch up. even in that loose environ, there's such a thing as production values.

if your boy was interviewed in house, you better believe he got hit with a rag.

Sozobe - I was speaking of other potential documentation which may prove to be embarrassing to the liberals supporting the Sheehan crowd. Wasn't specifically referring to the make-up thing.

<Although I do feel that if the NYT or any other newspaper had shown the photo, it would have at least caused some of the common folks to wonder...Crawford isn't Hollywood, after all>

First of all, he's not "my boy". I do respect and admire what he's about, though. Believe what you will, DTOM. You could be right...you could be wrong. I assure you, though, there was no professional make-up artist camped out at Ft. Qualls in anticipation of all the interviews that NBC, CBS or CNN would be requesting. I would think how one "looks" would be the last thing they were thinking of in their endeavor to "get out their message".

Yup. Should stick to criticism and opinion of the issues and subjects of the discussions and keep our opinions of any other than public personalities to ourselves.

JW, I'm making a larger point, too, not just the makeup. If I have a cause I believe in and I get help in furthering it from major organizations, there isn't any particular shame in it. It's mutually beneficial -- the large organization gets a personal face and story for their cause, I get the backing and resources of a large organization. It's not like I'm actually an actor/ escort pretending to be a legitimate news reporter and asking leading questions, or a commentator being paid to flog a policy, or a "news" report that is actually a partisan production paid for by the government, or anything. (Ahem.)

I didn't imply there was. I merely opined that much of Cindy Sheehan's stay in Crawford was documented by various sources (some perhaps even unknown to her) and some of it could be potentially embarrassing and could be a reason some of her support organizations have pulled back. We'll have to wait and see.

Well, fair enough. I was going by statements like this, though:

also think a lot will be forthcoming in the weeks ahead (now that she's leaving Crawford) about what really went on there and who was really behind it.

"Really" behind it? Why can't it be enough that Sheehan has something she feels passionately about and received support for her cause from major organizations?

Of course. So? Micheal Moore, both in "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 9/11", has repeatedly secured cheap laughs by filming Fox reporters, George Bush, Paul Wolfowitz, Charlton Heston and others when they did embarrassing things, thinking they were off-camera or talking to a friendly interviewer, but weren't. This footage is one major cause for the deep gut-level revulsion I feel for Michael Moore. More importantly for this thread, can you think of any conservative organization that abandoned these people because of those embarrassing scenes? I don't think so; neither should they, neither should corresponding Democratic organizations, and neither do I expect them to.

Contrary to your assertion, MoveOn doesn't appear to be one of them. You might want to check their webpage and see who is their top story today.

right on the mark, soz. it's called "politics".

in my humble view, even when no cash is involved, everything is politics. goverenance is politics. business is politics. art is politics. news is politics. religion is politics. sports is politics. marriage is politics.

even sex is politics. especially for single people. Shocked

Perhaps it will be enough. It could be that now that she's packed up and left Crawford, no more will be heard.

What if, though, hypothetically speaking of course, the public was told that land was donated by a Crawford resident who sympathized with Mrs. Sheehan and her cause, but later found out that that was not the case at all, and that, in fact, a rather large and well known liberal organization had arranged to pay a large sum of money to "lease" that resident's land for the month of August, 2005.

Or...what if (again, hypothetically) a rather well known figure, prominent in a rather well known liberal organization was filmed reacting to a statement about Casey and Cindy Sheehan by saying "this isn't about Casey or Cindy Sheehan and never has been." ?

I don't know what the public reaction would be. Perhaps revulsion, such as Thomas mentions, perhaps indifference, mostly likely sick of hearing about all of it.

Who knows? As I said, we'll just have to wait and see.

The revulsion Thomas mentions is for the people who think such thing matters -- that Michael Moore made such a big deal out of it, for example -- not the embarassing moments, themselves.
