Subject: The Barber
One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked about his bill and the barber replies: "I'm sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week." The florist is pleased and leaves the shop. Next morning, when the barber arrives to open, there is a thank you card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door. Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he offers to pay his bill, the barber again replies: "I'm sorry, I cannot accept money; I'm doing community service this week." The cop is happy and leaves the shop. Next morning, when the barber arrives to open up, there is a thank you card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door. Later, a Republican comes in for a haircut, and when he offers to pay his bill the barber again replies: ! "I'm sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week." The Republican is ! very happy and leaves the shop. Next morning when the barber arrives to open, there is a thank you card and a dozen different books such as "How to improve your business and become more successful. "Then a Democrat comes in for a haircut, and when he offers to pay his bill, the barber again replies: "I'm sorry, I cannot accept money from you; I'm doing community service this week." The Democrat is very happy and leaves the shop. The next morning, when the barber arrives to open up, there are a dozen Democrats lined up waiting for a free haircut.

The land of the free?

"......here in the US, Doug Ireland writes:

"The internationally renowned correspondent for The Independent - the great British journalist [and citizen] Robert Fisk - has been banned from entering the United States. Fisk has been covering war zones for decades, but is above all known for his incisive reporting from the Middle East for more than 20 years. His critical coverage of the Anglo-American invasion of Iraq, and the continuing occupation that has followed it, has repeatedly exposed US and British government disinformation campaigns. He also has exposed how the bulk of the press reports from Iraq have been "hotel journalism" - a phrase Fisk coined."

He continues:

"The daily New Mexican reports that "US immigration officials refused Tuesday [20 September] to allow Robert Fisk, longtime Middle East correspondent for the London newspaper, The Independent, to board a plane from Toronto to Denver. Fisk was on his way to Santa Fe for a sold-out appearance in the Lannan Foundation's readings-and-conversations series on Wednesday night. According to Christie Mazuera Davis, a Lannan program officer, Fisk was told that his papers were not in order. Davis made last-minute arrangements Wednesday for Amy Goodman, host of Pacifica Radios daily news show, Democracy Now!, to interview Fisk via satellite from a television station in Toronto..." A recording of this satellite interview will soon be available on the Lannan Foundation's website."

Anybody else notice that right-wingers have no concept about the freedom of the press? If they don't agree with the reporter, they want them banned from the US.

My feelings are strictly personal. I don't like the guy. He could be a professional ballet dancer and I still wouldn't want him in my country. The guy is a giant a$$hole and has no place here. Besides, he hates America, why would he want to come here anyway?

You always hate the one you love
The one you shouldn't hurt at all
You always take the sweetest rose
And crush it till the petals fall
You always break the kindest heart
With a hasty word you can't recall.

Ah, McG, the voice of reason. The still small voice of conscience.

What is your opinion on this?

The US military said yesterday it was opening an investigation into reports that soldiers based in Iraq were posting gruesome photographs of dead Iraqis, including explicit shots of severed body parts and internal organs, on a Florida-based website in exchange for access to the site's pay-only archive of pornography.

The photographs have outraged Arab and Muslim advocacy groups in the US and prompted human rights organisations to question whether they are not also a violation of the Geneva Conventions. They also constitute another potential public relations disaster for the United States as it continues to state publicly that it has the best interests of ordinary Iraqis at heart.

Some of the graphic website images are accompanied by openly racist comments from the soldiers who posted them. "What every Iraqi should look like," is the commentary next to a picture of a corpse whose brains and entrails are spilling out. In another image, six men wearing US Marine uniforms are smiling for the camera as they point to a burned body at their feet. The caption: "Cooked Iraqi."

To practice his profession (writing reports, giving lectures/presentations, etc).

Kinda like a soccerplayer might travel to Russia to play a match for his side on their out game, even if he hates the country.

If that were the criterion, we would have to ban Christopher Hitchens right away.

Aside from being obnoxious, on Politically Incorrect he showed signs of being half in the bag before he came onstage.

I was watching a debate between Hitchens and Galloway at a college recently. Hitchens wiped the floor with Galloway, wrung him out and then rinsed.
