I've announced at our last art opening that I'm moving there. Suddenly out of the woodwork come all of these promises to visit me. I believe at least two of them, since the people have family in Albuquerque or Santa Fe. Another has an art collector friend of apparent wealth who just moved there this month - who she thinks would like my work. Be that as it may or may not be - one learns not to count on these things - that's at least one name of someone interested in art...
Not that I don't already know there is a high interest in art there - it is part of the attraction of the city of Abq and that area of the southwest. Not all of the attraction though. I mostly like it because I have so much I can learn about the history and the place, in combo with copasetic friends. Copasetic? I'm not sure I ever knew how to spell that.
Osso, I hadn't realized you were so certain of the move! Have you set a date?
Wow what a surprise - moving and all.
last time I was in Albuquerque was to play a football game at the indoor Dome place there and our guys kept getting bloody noses from the dry altitude.
Indoor dome palace? See, I have so much to learn...
I did note that the city has about five giant indoor swimming pools...
Yes, LilK, I am sure, but I have a whole bunch of stuff to do. We haven't really known what we'd do when we grew up, and still don't, but I more than my business partner right now. She - can I call her Sue yet? - is much more invested in our town than I am. She has husband and house, although he'd move on a dime, and a son, daughterinlaw and granddaughter, and the son et al are engaged in the town and have myriad friends. And she has one hell of a horse, 17 hands and handfull, a very talented dressage horse of problematic history. She is perusing ranches in missouri online...
but in the meantime, she can keep up the gallery for a bit with help from a local photographer that will help support it.
Neither of us wanted to pay up for lease time, so we've let the decision go til now, the lease being up June 30.
I cannot foresee paying my mortgage until I am 89 as I have trouble enough as it is (no pension besides social security, and no, I am not a lazy bum.) And I can't keep my fairly big place up to the level I'd like by myself. I have lost the wanting to, and even wanting too, it would get harder.
So, I'll sell and use the equity to buy a chunk and possibly all of a quite small place in abq. And yes, I know, I'd better hurry up, re interest rates yadda yadda.
The good news is that Sue and I are pals in all this, at this point. We have had some extremely grumpy periods, but we'll miss each other's understanding of the other's mind re design, art, politics, people and so on. Or, we'll miss each other once we are miles away.
I am almost packed up at work. The house is another story.
But, yeah, I'm going to AQ.
Heh, I tried spellcheck (forget which word I wasn't sure of, and it corrected me for LILAC (lilK)
So - this month you'll move!?!
No, no, no, no, no. The house isn't for sale yet. I have batches of paperwork stuff to do, including my taxes, don't ask. The house is big, the tasks many, and I am still working.
I am not a total saver type, but I do have books on art, architecture, landscape, urban design, italy, travel, mysteries, house fix it (and have tossed to ucla extension, venice high school, salvation army, humboldt county library, mannnnnnny books. Gave all my stuff on Mexico to Venice High when I left LA.) Lots of photography, yikes, a year's hobby.. Some tagalongs from my parents, long dead, and I was an only child. Hate to toss any of that. I've already honed it out in the move to here from LA.
I know. This must be easy for buddhists.
I am a materialist...
Easy for buddhists? Ha!
I keep putting off recarpeting, tiling, and painting and remodeling the kitchen because of the problem with moving furniture and all the nicknacks, including seventy something buddha statues. Oy vey. Or should I say Ommmmvey.
Will you load up a rented truck or pay a company to move stuff to Albuquerque?
At this time, Sue has said she'll be glad to drive a giant uhaul - how can I say this, she thrives on command of horses and landscape equipment, and I just nod at them - and in the case of a giant uhaul, I would be apt to be up shitcreek within city limits. I might be able to do one of the medium uhauls <closing eyes>.
However, S. is a tad ephemeral, historically, in what she remembers being enthused about, so I am starting to think of good old bro' in law, or what? Good old bro in law is chief building inspector for a giant project....., not to mention my ex and I always made fun of his driving. Well, that is two or three or four steps ahead of now. One thing at a time, osso says, temporizing.
I paid a company to move me here. Good grief. They must have hurled my goods against concrete barriers. I had packed ceramics in boxes I got from behind Pier One, the boxes for ceramics with fanned out cardboard to hold bowls, for example. Totally encompassing and sturdy. And some of my bowls arrived broken. WTF? I ended up hating those people, complete slimoes. Oh, never mind.
I may end up driving medium uhauls by myself twice and my car a third drive. Sounds like trouble, except that I love driving, and I am very attached to California landscape, so I am apt to enjoy it. I can't do long hours. That is all too far ahead to worry about precisely now.
How shall I put this - a lot of the work on my house was done by formerly licensed folks in AA, and, yes, left off by them. I know I can find people to drive a truck to N. Mexico.
I am more wary than I was before. Let's say I probably can.
Excuse me - time to apologize to Diane and Dyslexia for skewing the thread. I needed to talk about all this and butt in here.
I know they think I'm okay, but really, this thread is about Chaco.
Nevertheless, it's info some of us want to have.
<hmmm.... thinking about hauling Osso's stuff to NM...>
As Scarlett O'Hara said, I'll worry about that tomorrow...
mmmm. I drove a moving truck from santa fe to athens, GA and then from athens to boston. I'd love to see NM again. But, neither you nor I have the $ to fly me there, so, that's that, I guess.
I'd love you to visit New Mexico again, but I'd much more enjoy it when I have an Albuquerque garage full of mystery boxes and we call all loll about and talk. Maybe JL and Msolga and Eva and Francis and Thomas and Shewolf will show up too, in addition to the Abq/Farm town folks.
Cool drinkies on the patio...
Edit - I forgot Tyrius lives in a city in New Mexico too.

OK, I'll start saving! Say, in about 20 years time? I should have the $$$$ by then!
