On Saturday, a woman came by calling for Julio. She saw us and asked if we had seen a conure (the same breed of parrot as our Fred). I told her we also owned a conure and asked if she would like to come in to see him. She answered "yes" so quickly that I was sure she just wanted to make sure we hadn't absconded with Julio.

She told me that Julio was used to flying free in her house and that she thought he would stay with her when she let him out of the cage in Chaco. I refrained from telling her how stupid she has been to let him out in unfamiliar surroundings. She was so upset and I knew how guilty she must have been feeling.

I wished her luck in her search, knowing that Julio would be lucky to survive the cold night and the ravens flying in search for food. Poor Julio.

Back later with more about Julio.

BTW, I also didn't think it would be kind to tell her that Fred and Julio were down by the school yard.

Oooohhhhh..... lucky NMers!

Hey Dys and Diane (and Roger, BBB, etc), have you heard of high country gardens - a plant nursery in santa fe? Specializes in native and drought tolerant plants.

I get the High Country Gardens catalogue each quarter. I plan to share them with Osso Buco so she can become acquainted with New Mexico compatible plants. The high desert is a special place with special requirements.

Diane, I see Sally is in her usual spot---in your lap.

Oh give me home where the prairie dogs roam,
and the desert greens up in the rain.
Where seldom is heard ..... any word
And the campers are happy again.

Looks like a great time was had by all. Can't wait to hear more about Fred & Julio.

Darlin' Sally sits on her lap,
and Sally looks for a toy to snap
and toss and stamp and skitter
while waiting patiently for dinner.

this is my fav pic that I took there, the doorways average between 3' and 4' feet high so Diane didn't even have to take her hat off and went quickly ahead of me:
