As I type one brother is furiously flapping and the other three are rather startled by his gymnastics.

They aren't resting. The pause is for applause. These fledglings are male, remember?

Cool Smile

The powers that be in our fair city decided (some years back) to install a pair of Peregrines in the hopes that they (the falcons, not the city officials) would chase off all the pidgeons. There was great fanfare, tons of local media coverage, hoopla out the wazoo. The big day came, and amid cheers from below, they released the falcons---who immediately flew off into the wild blue yonder, never to be seen again.

They've pretty much got to come on their own. Where is your fair city?

A day of drizzling rain is not auspicious for a maiden flight. Still, the hawks are strong willed birds....

Not hawks, Noddy. Falcons. Completely different birds.

I can't seem to get through to watch them this morning. There must be a lot of people watching. I wonder if something is happening?

One of the boys is on the ledge, swaying back and forth.
The other three seem to be eating something in the near left corner.

Eva--

I think falcons are in the hawk family the way that robins are in the thrush family. I'm sure that you can go hawking with a falcon on your shoulder (unless you're hawking with a push cart).

I'm not sure, but I think I just saw one of the kids take off. At any rate, now there are three. The Parent perching on high seems remarkably calm about missing a baby.

5:30 am- All present and accounted for on this drizzly morning in New York.

Watch the Four Boys take Flight or at least look down at the FDR Parkway a lot....

Mom and Dad are out getting breakfast.

Hi -

Total newbie here. (Watching the birds for weeks but just found this falcon discussion today.)

How large is the falcon ledge? Just two birds were visible this earlier morning and now the other two have appeared. Where did they go?

Thank you!

Hi falcon friend.
Welcome to Able2Know.

Seems the young fledgelings are out exploring Manhattan right now.

they fledged?
Hi -

Did the eyasses fledge? I'm so sorry I missed it!

My question: are there people on the ground to rescue any fledgling who winds up on the street? (It happens a lot, as they have poor control of their landings for the first few days and sometimes fledge to the ground.)
