I waited until the three ( er four) chickies hatched out.
Have a look.
Falcons of Water Street
Click on the Bird Cam and wait a sec.
You suckered me with your topic title, Joe, but I'm pleased you did because those little birdies are cool. Good link, cheers!
really? Really?! REALLY?!?!?!
This was SO much fun to watch last year! I can't wait...I'm on my way over to see them right now!
I was just about to pm you.
Aren't they fluffy for predators?
How beautiful is that Joe....? Thanks
Joe--
Thanks.
I have a crow's nest--way, way up high and a phoebe is nesting in the garage right over the windshield of the family car--but those falcons are serious birds.
What the hell. I just clicked on the bird cam and the male was in the process of draping his wing over the female and moving in for penetration.
He glanced up, saw me looking, and flew away in a huff.
And the female! You shoulda seen the look she gave me.
Eye daggers.
Precious!
Just be real quiet when you click. They are sleeping.
When does Mom come back? Does she have any kinda schedule?
That's the fun part, squinney! Last year, I checked in several times a day for a few minutes at a time. Sometimes one or more parents would be there, sometimes not. I watched them bring food to the young ones and show them how to tear it apart and eat it. And break up fights between siblings. I watched for several weeks until finally they were big enough to start flying. Watching those former fluff balls sitting on the edge, trying to get up their nerve. It had me sitting on the edge of my own seat. I had become quite attached to them. I'm thrilled that I get to watch it happen again!
Mom's there now! 5:10pm edt
young peregrine MMMMMMMMMMM. Tastes like chicken
No it doesn't. It tastes more like bald eaglet or spotted owl squab.
SHAME ON US!!
Okay, back to being falcon peepers.
Joe(Look there a cruise ship on the river!)Nation
Just checked in on Mama and the FOUR fluffy babies! All is well...
Hey, I know where that is now!
<watching the birdies>
Now if that laaaast one would just go on off to sleep, Mamma could go fetch lunch.
Squinney, when I was in New York a coupla weeks ago - on the street where these feather babies are - I thought of
this.
Now that woulda been fun! Not sure New York could handle us, though.
Carnivorous birds have gamey flesh--hence the lose-a-bet-eat-crow metaphor. Fish eating birds are even worse.
