@farmerman,
Today and the rest of the week i devoted to cutting "Scarf joints" These are longish sections that are joined by some rather complx jointery and they need special attention to the chamfering or dado cuts. Lots of overlap in the bottom of the hull where all these strips will be coming together.
Just takes time

@farmerman,

May the spirit of Conrad and Johnnie Walker speed your spokeshave.

And don't forget to stagger your scarfs.

@McTag,
(And pardon me but try not to scarf the johnny walker or you'll be staggering)

Pictures would be swell. Is that doable?

Anchovy/ pilchard/ sardine.

Are they different, or the same fish?

@McTag,
Sardine and pilchard are the same, just different ages.

Anchovy is a different species...

@Francis,
So we might use "pilchard", in jest, for a lady of mature years, over 25 say, and "sardine" for a fresh young hopeful. Pilchards on well buttered brown bread might be an ironic answer to "what's on tonight?

@Francis,

This brief yet informative answer accords with my separate researches.

I asked because there was a news item last week about shoals of "Mediterranean anchovies" being recently caught off the coast of Cornwall, where before the species was unknown.

But we've got sprats, pilchard and herring.

@farmerman,
Forget the concept of kevlar. Im going with fibreglas coating over the wooden strips . It will make a more pleasing finish and itll be stronger and only 2 lb heavier when the varnishes dry . Anyway, I am having sewcond thoughts about my skills as a kevlar craftsman. The stuff needs to be measured more carefully because of shrink curing. Its like porcelain in that respect, Ill have to expect and handle a 5% or more shrinkage (as a function of the temperature).

ANyway, kev;lar can be kicked in whereas ribbing covered with the redwood and other wood and coated with a fibreglas and clear gel, will allow a wooden finish look. Curraghc=s are classically a skin or canvas covered boat but that isnt cast in concrete and itll give me a chance to show off my jointery.

@farmerman,
A currach is for going to sea in isn't it. When we see a video of you doing that we might be impressed with your jointery.

This project, to build a replica viking longship and sail her on a long voyage, was undertaken by the Danes of the Viking Ship Museum.

@McTag,
It was undertaken by the surplus of the working classes Mac. Can you not see the hands at work under the magician's black cloth? It's why beer is so dear.

Is there an economic equivalence to helicopters?

Sailing ship theme tunes have tweaked your romanticism I'm afraid. There's nothing like a ship in full sail running before the wind looking like a washing line on a Blackpool postcard. Bulging white fabric. And Sailing, I'm sailing.
