If i tell you that jumping in front of a moving truck will kill you, in your opinion you cannot know until you have been hit by a truck.

I think you should mind your own business on this.

Maybe sexual appetite for the actual person being raped doesn't actually come into it (I think it certainly does most of the time, but it's open to debate), but it's ridiculous to deny that rape is a sexual act and that rapists are acting on their sexual appetite for something - be it power, control, boobs, or whatever.

Think what you want. I never denied it is a sexual act. But it isn't about sex.

How can a sexual act have nothing to do with sex? Can't you at least admit that rapists act on sexual impulses AND other impulses/motives such as the desire for power, etc.? This is quite petty I know, since I do agree with you that rape is about power and control and the like, but I'm just shocked that you think that rape isn't at all fueled by sexual appetite. If rapists aren't looking for sex as well as empowerment, etc., why don't they beat up their victims instead of rape them?

Because beating someone up isn't the same as being inside them and violating them in a way so private.

Okay. What about date rape? Would you agree that at least that is sexually driven?

Chances are good that the rape is more about the control and the power over the victim then it is the sex. (Beating a dead horse here.....) It's more about the "conquer" and the victory of bagging some chick, since most guys can find someone to stick their d*cks in.

A date rapists doesn't just decide that he is going to rape a girl because he is horny. He might be horny, yes, but the reason he rapes her instead of jerking off is because he thinks that he is above her and controls her and he can take what he wants when he wants it. The outer appearance of the act might appear sexual but the underlying reasoning behind a rape is that of control and dominance. "I can't take what I want, when I want it and I am going to prove it to you right now." Rapists get off on knowing that they have just stolen a piece of someone else. It's the same mentality as a murderer who watches the life leave their victims.

I agree with you. Except that if he wasn't horny, he wouldn't do it.

Masturbation
(Ive heard lots of religious people say masturbation and sexual desire are sins but I'm having a very hard time agreeing with that. These are just natural habits and I really don't see why god would sin us for it. Why would god create us to do things he doesn't like?)

I think Jesus has the answer for us right here and reading between the lines should be easy:

Matt 5:28-29 (NIV) [Jesus:] "But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."

I would find it very difficult to believe that someone who is masturbating isn't thinking of a member of the opposite sex or sex in general. Some people say as long as your not using pornography or something like that it is probably ok. There MUST be something sexual going on in your mind. Then people will say, "Why would God give us this pleasure if we couldn't use it?" The Lord is real specific with that. It is between a married couple. Now, the last thing I am doing here is trying to pass judgement. I can't, because I am just as guilty as MOST people. with this. I really feel it is a sin, personally and we are suppose to be strong and resist the temptation. Easier said than done.

Just my two cents.

Newman,
....How do you know "The Lord" is specific about "that"? Did you have a personal dialogue with "T L', or did you read that in a book, that was written by some men, and translated by many more men, through out history?

Welcome to the board, Newman. I knew if I hung around long enough, there would be someone crazy as I was when I posted HERE

I don't see how thoughts can ever be immoral. Only actiosn can ever brign harm to anyone or anything other than yourself - thoughts cannot do that, so how can they be wrong? How can adulterous thoughts be wrong, even if adultery is wrong?
