I got to the hospital ( different than the 2 prior times) emergency room folks got me right in an triage room before we could get the paperwork completed - by some funky sharing thing they had more info on me than I could imagine. I was so wiped by when they'd ask me a question I'd say 2 words and look at my wife to fill in everything I could not finish saying. I don't care what anyone says fevers are hard on the adult brain.

On to the real emergency gurney - in goes the IV and the nurse comes in and says X and Y are the antibiotics you were on in the past? (yes) We're starting you right now) Doc
comes in looks at leg and says yep - infection. We're getting a head start because you got here so quickly. Took lots of blood samples - fever still 103, bp like 100 over 40.

I got zero hours of sleep Wednesday night - leg was swelling a little but not much.
Thursday found out my white blood cell count was 20,000 (normal is not to exceed 11,000 or so). Started telling out of town family about the situation again.

This was the fastest 3 nights in the hospital I can remember - the family was not actually
There much because of school for the kids (finals and tennis) The wife was keeping all that together - she's been a really really good trooper in all this(3x)..

On Friday the Doc said if I improved as well as it had been going I'd be out on Saturday.
We would do oral instead of IV antibiotics - phew that seems like a good thing - they mrs is out getting them right now.

They have not come right out and said I have MSRA but the use the term a lot.

What is MRSA?
The organism Staphylococcus aureus is found on many individuals skin and seems to cause no major problems. However if it gets inside the body, for instance under the skin or into the lungs, it can cause important infections such as boils or pneumonia. Individuals who carry this organism are usually totally healthy, have no problems whatever and are considered simply to be carriers of the organism.

The term MRSA or methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus is used to describe those examples of this organism that are resistant to commonly used antibiotics. Methicillin was an antibiotic used many years ago to treat patients with Staphylococcus aureus infections. It is now no longer used except as a means of identifying this particular type of antibiotic resistance.

I'm awake - but chilly - asked the Mrs to turn up the furnace. This is my work laptop - thankfully A2K will run - many other sites and a couple emails I cannot get to on this laptop(stairs) . I hope soon to be on the my own pc. I think I'd like to exchange contact infor with many of you - a conversation on the tele is preferable to face to face in the hospital - I think Lola has or had my contact info I cannot remember 100%, there other but I'd have to say it could be stale. I really hope this is the last visit - famous last words from November. the word that keeps ringing in my head is REOCCURING

Yes. Your son contacted us kindly last time...

Husker, I just tuned in as it was happening this time and felt like I was in the car with you.

Clearly early access to antibio is important. If I were you I might/would go to the hospital when you recognize the pattern stepping in, whether or not they'd admit.

Also, I remember a comment on dear Cav's thread, re any cuts needing antibio immediately. I am not sure you susceptible folks are getting all the preventative info possible and, again, if it were me, I'd research serious med sites (don't know the links) for patient info. Not to scare you, but to arm you. And on the antibio to the cuts, I am not so sure that is right either, might depend on what it is. See if you can get closer to the horse's mouth - no not tonight.
