@bobsal u1553115,
Well, you know more about your personal history than I do. I know some stories, but that what they were, stories and with my families habit of just making up stuff and passing it down, who knows? More than likely we were the white trash in the era of slavery. I do know a great something not too distant uncle of mine invented a buttonhole on a sewing machine, that wasn't a rumor like say, being related to Pocahontas or Faye Rae (the first woman who was the woman in King Kong.) My aunts are something else, image four prettier "designing women" hick "housewives" and you got a good picture. Well, with my mom gone, three, they still look younger than I do even at half their age.

I'll PM you, we're taking up too much space here. In some ways I miss those days even know it wasn't perfect by a long shot, mostly for those marginalized and those who lived under oppression like the blacks, but it seemed a more innocent age for all of that.

@revelette1,
It's true that societies change not from the top, most of times. Gandhi said of the Indian people: "I must follow them because I am their leader."

So let's hope indeed that we're seeing a sea change. And not just in America. There's a global dimension to this, a bit like for #MeToo, including in France where Blacks and Arabs are pissed off to no end with police brutality.

Aha...now I understand what the problem is.

Okay.

@Olivier5,
The Arabs/Muslims are mistreated here too, have been since 9/11. It's not a popular subject and is in a different category in our country I think, more federal maybe. But what you are saying is in France Arabs get treated as badly as blacks in our country by your local police, nothing to do with terror? I don't really know if they do here.

Considering he worked in publishing that is an outstanding choice.

More bullshit. They are almost a protected class. Social media censors the truth about Islam. And "Islamophobe" shuts down discussions and hides the information people need to know about a violent hateful religion. All that information is, is the truth. Read their holy literature and find out.

Yes, and yes, it has nothing to do with terror, and a lot to do with how police forces the world over are constructed (structured, hired, trained, etc.) to enforce order with no questions asked, including when this order is unjust.

If there exist a racial injustice in a given country (and these things happen in every country - racism is a universal human trait), then you can bet that the police of this country, as structured, is part of the problem. By design it will not only tend to ignore the problem. In many instances the police will be called upon to actively maintain mechanisms of racial injustice. It will be used to "put them back in their place", "to send them a message". Even if no order is made, even if it's unconscious, their job is to maintain the status quo and they will do so.

As the situation festers for some times, as in France or in the US right now, hatred grows on both sides. Police tend to mistrust Arabs and Blacks as a matter of course; Arabs and Blacks tend to resent the police as a matter of survival. Bad things happen when they meet sometimes. It's part of a system, even if some individual cops are more sadistics than others.

@revelette1,
I wonder if we too often discount the attitudes of SOME blacks and Arabs? There are people both white, black, and arab, who are looking to cause trouble.

@RABEL222,
There are troublemakers everywhere, but when the police start to feel so empowered and on a license to kill, that they murder innocent folks in broad daylight... then the real troublemakers are the police and the people (judges etc) who empower them.

One day it might be you who’s suffocating under the knee of a nazi policeman...

Not so nowadays. One of the reasons I personally don’t travel to the US anymore is to limit risk of murder by cop. Europe is a safer place.

Maybe in Germany. In France there’s a significant FN contingent in the national police force. They just don’t feel authorized to kill any black man they fancy to kill quite yet, unlike in the US apparently.

That’s about right but it’s a shithole where truth still has currency, and where cops don’t murder citizens nearly as often as in the US.
