There is nothing even remotely morally despicable about supporting Mr. Trump in his efforts to prevent progressives from violating everyone's civil liberties.

Trump is a corrupt liar and should be locked up when he leaves office in January. Preferably the next day. or better yet as soon as he leaves the white house.

Outlawing the Democratic Party will put an end to their abuse of the law to conduct witch hunts against people who don't agree with them.

@oralloy,
Conservatives seem to love the idea of massive fatal violation of americans. civil rights by gun violence, since they refuse to do anything constructive about it. if you ever do, people might start thinking you have something worthwhile to contribute to the discussion.

@oralloy,
Seems to me that's a pretty fair definition of what conservatives do, right wing a2k posters definitely not excepted.

Progressives don't try to do anything constructive about it either.

All progressives care about is how much fun they can have violating people's civil liberties.

trump seems to be making the unwarranted assumptions that viewership equals support. People need to know what's going on, even when it's clear he's lying. That doesn't mean it's his crowd. I'd say it 's mpostly for Fauci's honest input

To mimic Bierce:

Morality (n): A vague and malleable concept which describes what you have and your opponents lack. It's basic elements are derived from fear, weakness, envy, self-loathing, and the need to overcome strong feelings of inferiority. Synonym: Self-interest.

Ambrose Bierce wrote:
Christian, n.: one who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor.

Not entirely fair. The video below is from 1969.

Best part of this vid is at around the 9:00 mark where chomsky says:

"Sometimes I lose my temper, maybe not tonight"

Buckley: "Maybe not tonight because if you did I'd smash you in the Goddamn face."

Chomsky: "That's a good reason not to lose my temper."

Now there's a homosexual catfight that would be somewhat interesting to watch, ya know?

I suspect it would end with Chompsky taking it up the ass, but I wouldn't stick around to find out.

Wrong again. That "progressive attempts to outlaw pistol grips on semi-auto rifles" has absolutely nothing to do with "trying to save lives" is a fact.

That you cannot provide any alternative motivation for trying to outlaw pistol grips on semi-auto rifles besides the fact that progressives enjoy violating people's civil liberties is a fact.

That progressives do not speak for anyone other than themselves is a fact.

Trump: "We had a lot of people, people were saying maybe we should not do anything, just ride it. Ride it like a cowboy. Ride that sucker right through."

I’m hoping we get to check on the wisdom of that approach. Last I heard, Sweden is taking the approach of isolating elderly and other vulnerable people but otherwise, business as usual. Trump may just have run out of nerve in the face of the media ridicule. Human after all.

@Leadfoot,
The Swedish constitution prohibits the government from meddling in the affairs of the administrative authorities, such as the public health agency.

The Netherlands, btw, is taking a similar approach to Sweden’s. The Dutch government argued that it was too late to shut down the country completely (after they were pressed by their citizens [they didn't want to be "guinea pigs"]).

@Walter Hinteler,
Interesting, thanks.
I’m in the 'high risk' category but based on the information we have, I think that approach makes sense. I agree that government should not medal in local affairs (wish it were that way here) but they could be a source of solid information and guidance (when they have the balls to ignore the voting chickens).

@Leadfoot,
While it is said here that the coronavirus is spreading too fast to loosen restrictions (I'm in the high risk, too, Mrs Walter even more - both of us want to live a bit longer, so we here applaud to our government), in Sweden they still use different methods to slow down the spread. (It should be noted that this only works because Sweden has a long tradition for voluntary measures - that’s how they’re used to working.)

Sure. People seek information in such a time and traditionally/normally we turn to leadership for that information. People want leadership to be functioning properly and effectively and even when that isn't the case people will project their hopes onto what they see.

But Trump is clearly not normal in his dishonesty and his sociopathy and that bragging about ratings for the briefings... one of the Kardashians might as well be in the WH.
