That's actually not the case. If Ms Klein had paid careful attention to the news, she may have noted that Sanders is in fact running for president of the US.

@Olivier5,
Not incorrect — the candidate who heads the ticket becomes the acknowledged "leader" of the party. If Sanders's contention that there is an untapped base of new voters out there is true and he wins in November he'll be the leader of the party for the rest of his term. If he loses, the DNC will function as the party leadership until new leadership emerges from the field.

@hightor,
Sanders is NOT running to be leader of the Democratic Party. It's not at all what he is trying to achieve. He is aiming higher than that.

@Olivier5,
It's all part of the same quest, Olivier, no need to go on the defensive about it. If he succeeds in bringing in millions of new voters they will see him as the one they wish to lead the party, and if they help propel him to victory, he will be the leader of the party. If he doesn't want to be the leader of the party he has no business running for the office.

So much for a lot of people who though the Dem Party is socialist.

Also, Bernie voters are going to have to come to grips that black voters are not the establishment.

I heard a preacher say about the self-righteous:

"They are so heavenly-bound, they're no earthly good."

Amen, preacher.

Some of you might have missed the incident where protesters rushed the stage where Biden was speaking last night. Biden's wife and adviser Symone Sanders took action. Quite a sight watch it here

Sanders particularly was not taking any **** from dumb people. I would not mess with her, let me tell ya.

As Josh Marshall noted last night, the protesters weren't Trumpies or Sanders' people. These two were protesting dairy products. That was "peak Dem", he said.

@hightor,
You're the one feeling defensive here. The fact remains that he's not running for that position, no matter how much you say otherwise.

@blatham,
Just like any other candidate... Let me make this very clear for y'all mentally confused: in presidential elections, candidates run to become president. Biden is NOT running to be the leader of the Democratic party, Sanders is NOT running to be the leader of the Democratic party, and Warren is NOT running to be the leader of the Democratic party. I trust that clarifies.

@Olivier5,
I'm not quite sure why you think this differentiation is important or even real. As Trump now is the head of his party, Obama was earlier. And every president. A candidate, when successful, ends up there. It's part of the package.

But more importantly, the president needs to be there because he/she cannot go it alone and be successful in the position. He/she can't operate nationally without the party's support and cooperation. A candidate isn't running for King but for leadership of a broad coalition of citizens and existing operations at the state and community levels. It's not a "me" position but an "us" position. Even the maniacal egocentric Trump counts on others.

Alan Gross, prisoner for five years in Cuba recalls when Sanders came to visit him on NPR this morning.

Quote:
American Alan Gross, a prisoner in Cuba for five years during the Obama administration, is accusing Sen. Bernie Sanders of commending the communist country when he came to visit him behind bars.

Sanders visited Cuba as part of a congressional delegation in 2014, along with Sens. Heidi Heitkamp and Jon Tester.

During the one-hour meeting, Sanders told the prisoner that he didn't understand why others criticized Cuba, Gross said in an interview with NPR.

"He said, quote: 'I don't know what's so wrong with this country,' " Gross recalled.

Sanders' campaign declined to comment about the meeting with Gross, and Tester said he did not recall the discussion.

A source close to Heitkamp said the then-North Dakota senator remembered that Sanders seemed to disregard the meeting with Gross and that an uncomfortable exchange occurred, but did not remember the exact remark.

Quote:
Gross, who now says he opposes Sanders' campaign for president, was arrested in December 2009 after completing a U.S. Agency for International Development subcontract. He was in Cuba working to expand Internet access to the country's small Jewish community, beyond the restrictive Internet regulations set by the Castro government.

He spent 1,841 days in detention, during which he lost five teeth and over 100 pounds. He also said his interrogators threatened to pull out his fingernails and to hang him.

Quote:
Gross said Heitkamp and Tester brought him a big bag of peanut M&M's, a memory that Gross remains fond of today because of his undernourishment at the time. Sanders brought an issue of The Atlantic magazine. Gross was also allowed to wear civilian clothes for the visit — a treat because normally he was allowed to wear only prison pajamas.

He said he had a pleasant conversation with Heitkamp and Tester, while Sanders remained mostly quiet for the duration of their one-hour meeting.

"Senator Sanders didn't really engage much in the conversation," Gross said.

But near the end, the Vermont senator offered a comment to the detained American, saying he didn't see what was so wrong with the country.

Anyone else watch Bernie start trashing Biden when the Biden wins started accumulating? And he didn’t discourage the crowd from booing Biden. What value does any pledge he signed to support the nominee have - when this is his behavior and true attitude?

@Olivier5,
I disagree with that position. The presidential candidate becomes the de facto head of the party with the ability to change party chairs in the national organization and a lot of weight in the state organizations. When Obama won the nomination over Clinton, he immediately owned the reins to the party. Same with Trump. If Sanders defeats all comers he will be the face and the CEO of the Democratic party. He might not value that role and choose not to accept the mantle but his followers will rise to power all through the organization and those who did not support him will be pushed out.
