@blatham,
I don't envy Democrats

Their choices are one of two socialists (and whether they are or not is immaterial. Sanders says he is and Warren echos him) and a guy who is so past his prime he is going to figuratively **** his pants in a debate with Trump.

I'm looking at the field and asking myself who can I live with beating Trump and they are all polling below 3%

However, it's clear from these threads that some progressives have little understanding of reality. One of your kind can't make up his/her mind on Biden or Warren (and not because of "electability"). Really? How stupid can that be?

It's a frigging beauty contest.

I really don't know who to hope wins the nomination. I'm leaning towards Biden only because despite his current ludicrous support from people who are obviously unwilling to think, I am sure he will eventually implode. I don't think Americans are quite ready for socialism but Warren and Sanders will be far more formidable opponents that Crazy Uncle Joe.

Isn't he that goofy person who spouts all those lies that the Founding Fathers put the Second Amendment in the Constitution with the specific goal of oppressing black people?

I didn't bother to read this story. Just copied this line above the link:
Charles Koch wants to limit access to Medicaid and food stamps, and he's spending big money to make it happen.

The question that hangs like a stale fart in the air: Why does this bastard care? Why do conservatives hate allowing the less fortunate to benefit in these small ways. They already have everything they could hope to get from the gravy train that is America. I would think their interest would flag when start getting this trivial to rob the system for more.

@edgarblythe,
They are basically evil. Anyone who wants the less privileged to starve to death or die of some disease by with holding medical care can't be described any other way. People like him have so much money they have never had to do without anything they wanted but the most important thing is their money and making more while holding on to what they have. I wish there was a heaven and hell so I could see the shocked look on the faces of all those good Christians when they are thrown into hell for the sinful lives they have lived. But of course most Christians don't believe that hell exists or they would live very different lives.

Aside from the matter of defining the term "socialism" (the US, of course, like all other western nations, is a mixed economy with a number of robust social programs in place funded by all via taxes) there's the other matter of whether your stated presumption is supported by polling of citizens. As one famous elderly Tea Party supporter put it, "Don't let the government get their hands on my Medicare!".

@blatham,
There are a lot of things that Americans take for granted but don't realise are "socialist", socialist achievements like publicly owned electric and water utilities, for instance, farm subsidies, Amtrak, the Federal Reserve, free education for all children, abolition of child labour ... ...

@Walter Hinteler,
Yes. I think the combination of cold war propaganda plus anti-government/"libertarian" ideas have left a lot of Americans (particularly older americans) poorly equipped to think these things through. And I suppose we ought to include a tendency in American culture to presume that knowledge of the world outside American borders isn't important (perhaps even dangerous - foreign ideas being akin to pollution by immigrants).

God, I should’ve proofread. I meant “I still tune in fairly regularly.”, not “I still think be in”. I hate autocorrect sometimes.

Yes, a great example of Baldimo's astute observation:

Indeed. Take Amsterdam. The dull grey architecture, the corpses filling the streets, the unhappy residents of the city, the bloated bodies floating on rivers. Death, starvation everywhere

Likewise, Vancouver. They need bulldozers to gather up the rotting dead people.

Even worse, Sydney Australia. A real shithole of poverty and gloom

US citizens no longer have our tried and true excuse of abject stupidity and reliance on fear-mongering to avoid creating a government that works for all of us.

We cannot avoid acknowledgement of the fact that many of our best policies borrow from socialism. Our corrupt politicians have taken from the poor to bail out and entice the rich. This practice has ruined and ended lives of good, hardworking people. The profit-making on this horror ranks with treason imo.

Their turn is OVER. It’s our turn now and forward.

Look at the ******* Sackler story. Watch Bezos.

Enough!

Which type of socialism do you prefer? The one we have now—where poor people’s money is used to bail out & entice billionaires?? Or the type Bernie Sanders advocates—where we can all pay less than we pay now for healthcare & see a Dr. based on our health, not what we can afford.

Joy Reid has been all over the map politically in the last five years. She began pointing out the media bias against Bernie, then, she joined the media bias against Bernie...

She notably covered up her old homophobic statements by seeming to imply that Russians time-traveled into the past, somehow planted homophobic statements attributed to her on her personal blog, as a personal attack—though she could never quite explain why Russia would do such a thing.

Regardless of the level of buffoonery and corruption practiced by Ms Reid, I am pleased as hell that she’s going on the attack against Biden.

I realize she’s Team Kamala, but it matters not. Biden needs to go. Kamala will never be elected. Biden leaving the roster is good for the country, good for the Ds, and good for Bernie✌🏽🤘🏼.

Thanks, Joy.

I like the kind where wasteful military spending is justified by fear-mongering and rationalized as being "good for the economy".
