@Brand X,
An example of fascism and an anti-democratic attack on America that CAN AFFECT AN ELECTION.

Just in case someone wanted a legitimate example of what that looks like.

I hear she’s suing them for $50million. Our country is so corrupt, I doubt she can win. Our economy has been rigged to create the uber wealthy, and a clique of untouchables is one result.

@Finn dAbuzz,
One thing is a Jewish homeland. Another thing is the Zionist requirement that this Jewish homeland maintain a Jewish majority and denies the rights of the Palestinian peoples to Palestine which is their homeland. That's why Israel's existence is predicated on the oppression of the Palestinian peoples.

One's oppression does not justify one's oppression of another people. An oppressive state is no one's due.

More circular logic. The only oppression here is the fact that you've defined Israel's very existence as oppression.

"Why is that ALWAYS the thing people ask?"

How is it circular?

Very few people outside of the Jews seem able to comprehend this. They also rarely, if ever, bother to further their education in learning the long history and journey of the Jewish people.

That Israeli Jews are indigenous to the West Bank area is well known by historians and archaeologists.

You condemn them for oppression that exists only because you have defined them as oppressive.

The only thing that the Palestinians need to do in order to receive a Palestinian state is agree to peacefully accept Israel as a Jewish state alongside their Palestinian state.

Denouncing antisemitism does not whitewash anything.

The definition of "oppressive" fits Israel to a T.

Wonder if Google trying to sway the election will get the coverage Russia did...

@InfraBlue,
The right of return is incompatible with a two state solution.

Palestinians should accept living in their own state instead of trying to steal Israel's state from them.

It is well known by historians and archaeologists that the first Zionists to Palestine were indigenous to Europe.

The Zionists need to dismantle their ethnocentrically oppressive state and allow a truly democratic, egalitarian and pluralistic state to take its place.

You're also a champion for genocide, so what you find in regard to Israel doesn't carry much weight.

@Sturgis,
Quote:

Very few people outside of the Jews seem able to comprehend this.

I think they comprehend it. They just don't agree with it. There are simply too many cases of ethnic groups being displaced over time to allow exiled people to simply return and reclaim the land as their own. There's a statute of limitations to going back where you came from.

The rather tragic history of the European Jews predisposed many westerners to sympathize with their plight, especially on the Left. Unfortunately the establishment of the Jewish state didn't follow the satisfying script which had been hoped for and over the years, sometimes rightly, sometimes wrongly, Israel was perceived as a colonial power which subjugated its native population. Whatever the complexity of the background story, many people simply saw invading white Europeans oppressing the Palestinians. As the government of Israel moved steadily to the right — which was obviously a natural reaction to perceived hostility — it became easier and easier for progressives to criticize the country. The West's growing dependence on Mideast oil also affected the equation. The emergence of Jewish neo-conservatives in the US further cemented the idea in the mind of many leftists that Jews were shunning progressive values and that Israel, once seen as secular and liberal, was turning into some sort of oppressive religious state. Jumping ahead to the present we see conservative Republicans linked arm-in-arm with the Likudniks and Israel the darling of the religious right — who just can't wait for Armageddon.

It's all very sad. But human history doesn't play out strictly in accord with revealed Scripture. Personally I don't think the hardcore Jewish right (like the hardcore Republicans here) represents the sentiments of the majority of Israeli Jews but (like the Republicans here) it's figured out how to be very effective at the ballot box. I don't know how it will end. Climate change may make the entire region uninhabitable in a few generations and we'll see another Exodus.
