Creeping Theo-Progressivism
The odd alliance between Islamists and the “woke” intersectional Left

Quote:
Other Islamists who have embraced and adopted progressive rhetoric are clearly being duplicitous, however. The Texas-based cleric Omar Suleiman, for instance, has been vocal in protesting the Trump administration’s immigration policies. “Haunting” and “powerful” images of Suleiman gazing into the eyes of an immigrant child ran in national media outlets (with the help of Suleiman himself, who promoted them heavily). And yet, speaking before an Islamist audience, Suleiman has warned Muslim girls that if they are “promiscuous,” they may face death at the hands of a family member. Likewise, Al Jazeera’s social media channel, AJ+, posts documentaries on transgender rights and the wickedness of misogyny, homophobia, and other bigotries—but its Arabic parent station broadcasts sermons by Muslim Brotherhood clerics advocating the killing of Jews and gays and offering husbands permission to beat their wives.

Some of the most ascetic Muslim clerics reject all ideological alliances. They may engage in barebones interfaith activities, but they do so while warning against accepting the “validity” of other religions and preaching that “Islam in the West is a resistance movement against totalitarian liberal ideology.” (As Michel Houellebecq illustrates with alarming plausibility in his novel Submission, this line of thinking may end up appealing to Western traditionalists also frightened by the progressive movement, who find shared values with Islamist ideologues.)

@blatham,
Above, regarding right wing response to the New Zealand attack on Muslims, I wrote
Quote:
There'll be a sizable American right wing contingent saying something very similar, guaranteed. Tucker Carlson might lead their charge unless Limbaugh gets there first.
Well, here's what Limbaugh said today. He took it in a similar but worse direction.
Quote:
Radio host Rush Limbaugh weighed in on the New Zealand mosque attacks Friday by suggesting that the Australian man allegedly behind them — whose manifesto outlined his white supremacist worldview — is a leftist out to smear his “political enemies.”

Citing how “crazy” the left is, Limbaugh added that there is an “ongoing theory” that the shooter is a “leftist who writes the manifesto and then goes out and performs the deed purposely to smear his political enemies, knowing he’s going to get shot in the process.”

“If that’s exactly what the guy is trying to do then he’s hit a home run, because right there on Fox News: ‘Shooter is an admitted white nationalist who hates immigrants,'” Limbaugh said.

Limbaugh also dismissed the idea that there is “far more crazed right-wing terrorism in America than there is any other kind,” calling the claim “nothing more than a media narrative manufactured out of whole cloth.”

“You realize you’re going to face a whole day of Donald Trump being blamed for it, or you being blamed for it, or things you believe in being blamed for it,” Limbaugh said.
TPM

This is what Limbaugh does all the time. It is what he has always been doing. This is straight up misinformation in aid of his Republican President and party. That is, it is propaganda.

Of course and as always, the goal is to keep his base inflamed and stupid. This game earns him $50 million a year. He is a sociopath.

Is it any better than Trump colluding with Russia that has been proven was, and still is, propaganda? And what makes him (Limbaugh) a sociopath? Some examples and consequences of his actions would be nice.

So what? AOC has done the same. But not by supporting Jews.

what it highlights is the growing fear within our community, both in Australia and New Zealand of the increasing Muslim presence.

What does that tell you? It tells me people who know what Islam is do not want it. It is high time someone says it very loudly.

Whether it's the "walk away" crowd, or Lush Lamebrain, or any other far right propaganda effort, the significant thing is that they're always preaching to the choir--they are always talking to Plump's base. That base is not, or would not be, sufficient to defeat the Democrats, and that explains the constant attacks on individual Democrats such as we see Lash and others posting. That's why the Russian troll farm has been hitting this site (and doubtless hundreds or even thousands of others) with various narratives, the most recently popular being the claim that the Democratic Party is antisemitic.

The quadrennial elections are always contests for the uncommitted middle, the moderate voters. To me, that accounts for the new, constant drumbeat against individual Democrats.

I think that's right, set. And of course it is going to get much worse. It's going to get ugly not just in terms of rhetoric and propaganda but, less visibly, in strategies to reduce Dem voter access to the polls.

The MSM attacks Trump daily. It is far more likely they are working with Russia. We will see what the new AG finds.

And Tucker Carlson, hero of the white supremacist crowd, chimes in on New Zealand.
Quote:
If you really wanted to stop horrifying acts of violence like the one we just saw in New Zealand, like the ones we have seen repeatedly over the past five or six years, you would take an honest look at what the West has become.

It is a place where the church has died. A place where a foolish ruling class calls itself God, a place where the people wither.

Its hallmarks are fatherlessness, addiction, mental illness, evaporating social trust, and the widespread nihilism you would expect as a result of all of that.

This is the society that our ruling class built.
MM

"a place where the church has died"
As I've noted elsewhere (with links) there are some 400,000 congregations in the US. And we ought to note he does not include either Jews or Muslims in his statement. But this is typical for him. He tells his audience (many evangelicals) that they are victimized and they're well primed to belief him.

"A place where a foolish ruling class calls itself God" Ruling class? Who might that be? Trump and the GOP led Senate and a GOP led House (until a couple of months ago)? Republican led state governments? Bush and crowd? He uses "ruling class" as an abstraction and avoidance of any clear assignment of blame or cause. And of course this is the boiler plate right wing propaganda line that "government is the problem"

"Its hallmarks are fatherlessness, addiction" He avoided 'crack whores' here. Possibly too obvious. Why can't those black people pull up their socks?

"mental illness" The NRA and right wing go-to diversion so as to prevent an honest discussion of gun violence. But Tucker has his head on straight re mental ailments as he showed with this authoritative quote
Quote:
he said that the belief that we live under a patriarchy is “a sign of mental illness” and “demented.”

Not a single ******* word about white supremacists or anti-muslim bigotry.

Constant personal harassment, taking 3 year argument across multiple threads, lying about a member, name-calling.

If this is approved, I’ve got substantial truth to share about this person.

I’d like to know who the so-called mod is these days.

Watch this woman. She wants to be in the WH and her father wants her there too.

the evidence suggests that Lynn Cheney is the one with political ambition for the clan, not Dick. Heard an interview the other day saying that if not for Lynn, Dick would have happily retired as a lineman.

You have made Muslims victims even when they are the terrorists. You should not say a thing when you equate any terror with the terror inspired by Islam. There is no organized world wide White supremacist organization that routinely kills innocents and all you liars know that.

That's bloody depressing. About 20 years ago, I was listening to a radio talk show in Vancouver where the subject was guns and gun control. A local caller dialed in to argue that controls would violate the Constitution's second amendment. No kidding.

Re Lynn, that could well be so. But once Dick got in to the game his ambitions became quite evident. You don't hire a guy like Addington if you are unserious about wielding power in an authoritarian manner.
