@blatham,
blatham wrote:
,,,,,, ps... re logic, you recently excused your use of tu quoque (appeals to hypocrisy) fallacy saying you hadn't formed a syllogism. There is no such relationship as you seem to believe. A truth claim or agument can be fallacious however it is presented or structured. Eg "He can't be right. He's a red-headed Scottish homosexual". Or, if we want to get current, "Trump is innocent because Cohen has been found guilty of false testimony"

Well I went back to the post with the proposition in q1uestion, which is quoted below,
Quote:
Edgar, none of these pseudo scientists who call for the elimination of our CO2 emissions and, as is the case with most of those usually quoted, also call for the elimination of emissions free nuclear power has any claim of credibility.

This is indeed a fallacious overstatement. I should have clearly restricted the subject to only those pseudo scientists who both call for the elimination of CO2 emissions and also call for the elimination of nuclear power. The opening "none etc, " was misleading and incorrect.

@blatham,
The Democrats knew all about it and ultimately lay down and let the Republicans tie them on the railroad tracks. You can't tell me they could not make a case to do the right things, beginning in the late 60s or at least 70s. What were they all on vacation? I, an uneducated chump from the sticks, could tell it was going on.

@georgeob1,
Wrong post. The search function doesn't find it and I won't go back to locate the post but the close-to-exact words in response to a post from me where I pointed out your use of the fallacy followed by the definition of the fallacy...

Nonsense. I didn't state a syllogism.

Those were the first two sentences.

Edgar. I grew up in the sticks too. We used to play 500 Up in cow pastures and rarely came home without one of us covered in cow ****.

But your historical description is far, far to general to do anything with.

Jesus. Hours in and Christie's observation that Republicans have asked no substantive questions remains the case. Everything is repeated attempts to denigrate Cohen. Everything.

Imagine if the Republicans on the Senate Watergate Committee had spent all of their time trying to knock down John Dean. Instead, they mostly asked GOP-inflected informational questions. These Republicans are built different.
Yeah. The modern GOP is different. It is pervasively corrupt. Deflection and disinformation in order to gain/maintain power is the standard now.

I'm sorry, but for all the GOP members of Congress complaining that having Cohen testify is a waste of time and beneath the dignity of the chamber... are they aware Republicans literally invited "Diamond & Silk" testify last year???

@coldjoint,
I remember when Australia abolished their freedom and civil liberties. The result was a massive crime spree. Robbery rates (both armed and unarmed) were doubled for the next five years.

@maporsche,
Homicide rates continued on the same gradual downward trend that they were already on, with no alteration in the rate of change.

I don't know what happened with suicide rates.

@edgarblythe,
Sorry to be the one who has to inform you, this is a part of her job. At some point in time, any legislator of any value, must begin asking questions and stating their ideas and opinions. Neither Warren not Sanders would be as well heard of and received, had they not take that first move forward.

You may not agree with her or her questions, but she has every right to speak them.

@Sturgis,
I confess to not watching the video, but I figured that Edgar was being sarcastic, that his post was actually criticizing people who supposedly tell her to keep quiet.

Although I doubt that anyone is actually telling her to keep quiet. That's just leftist mythology.

Here's a tweet from the RNC this morning
Quote:
“Michael Cohen is a convicted felon who has consistently engaged in deceptive and misleading criminal behavior including tax evasion, lying to financial institutions, and lying to Congress.”

And Steve Benen points out some recent RNC history
Quote:
As regular readers may recall, in April 2017, the RNC issued a press release introducing the members of its finance team. Casino mogul Steve Wynn would serve as the Republican National Committee’s finance chairman, while Elliott Broidy and Michael Cohen were among a small handful of Republicans who would serve as national deputy finance chairmen.

Wynn was forced to resign from the RNC earlier this year following sexual misconduct allegations. (The RNC refused to return his money.)

Broidy, who’s at the center of multiple, ongoing controversies, also resigned in the wake of an unrelated sex scandal.

And then there’s Cohen – the “convicted felon who has consistently engaged in deceptive and misleading criminal behavior including tax evasion, lying to financial institutions, and lying to Congress” – who stepped down from RNC post just eight months ago.

Only the best people.

@coldjoint,
Hilariously moronic . . . with those figures being proportional rates, and the population of Norway (from the first chart) being slightly over five million, as compared to the 325,000,000 of the United States, where is the slaughter the greatest?

Ah yes, lies, damned lies and statistics.

It seems glaringly obvious that Edgar’s is the diligent and intellectually honest position, and that your admitted bias in the same breath as admitting bipartisan fundraising guilt is nonsensical.
