@oralloy,
It appears to me that your method of argument and discussion involves first referencing your fixed opinion and then throwing up whatever flimsy argument you can make in defense of it.

Not very persuasive and not very interesting either.

@georgeob1,
I offer facts more often than I do opinions.

In this case, I offered one fact (that Israel was acting in self defense against Egypt and Syria), and one question (how was Israel to know that the Liberty markings were not a ruse).

My arguments are substantial enough that no one can manage to undermine them. That's good enough I think.

@oralloy,
in 1967 we had, regularly used, instant communications channels between our forces in the Mediterranean (then consisting of two carrier battle groups) and the Israeli Military command. No advance warning of the attack on any ship was provided and no response from Israel occurred following repeated calls from Liberty and other U.S. commands on those channels. There was a very strong likelihood that the U.S. would have objected strongly to any Israeli attack going beyond Suez, and the weight of the evidence strongly suggests that, because Liberty had very extensive communications monitoring capability - well known to them - they were acting to prevent our early discovery of their intentions.

@georgeob1,
What Israeli attack beyond the Suez was being planned?

The air attacks against the Egyptian Air Force took place three days before the Liberty attack and were ancient history by then.

@georgeob1,
That’s exactly what happened. Unfortunately most of the people here don’t have any idea at all how sophisticated the comms system are on our vessels nor the intricate arrangements made between countries to avoid exactly what happened to the Liberty.
NSA has provided a number of declassified documents and they are accessible at NSA.gov. I haven’t checked on the USS Liberty, I don’t know if they have been declassified as yet but I have read numerous documents concerning the Vietnam Nam war and the Korean War. Not everything can be released at the same time. There is an in house program that uses experienced intelligence analysts to properly declassify documents and release them for public view. What’s available is all there on the site. It’s a whole bunch more informative than Wikipedia.

As far as the conflict between Israel and neighboring hostile countries, history will sort all that out. However, the attack in the USS Liberty is hardly a ‘whoops’. The Israelies, absolutely knew that the Liberty was ours and they knew exactly what her mission was....the comms crew would have noticed increased activity, and would be reporting back to HQ’s. Trying to sink the Liberty was a futile attempt to prevent that from happening.

@glitterbag,
What increased activity?

The Liberty was attacked on Day #4 of the Six Day War. Things were already active.

@maporsche,
He sent that far wrong. Check the big business people who finance most of the democratic politicians. They are a consertive light party, not liberal. Many democrats fought Obama care tooth and nail until they made it the substandard health program it is today.

I tell you what, how about first you enlist in one of the services, or become an analyst at one of the Intel agencies, become proficient in TA, CA, CL, HUMINT, SIGINT, ELINT, TELINT military, economic and political research, work for 30 + years then try and craft a question that doesn't make you sound like "I would be totally wasting g'bag's time, because I am totally out of my depth" ?

It coincided with the collapse of the Egyptian forces in Sinai, and the breakout of the Israeli Army towards the canal and beyond.

@ehBeth,
Whether that Kamala Harris meme is true or not, it doesn't disqualify her from being President.
In fact, if the meme is true, it might help her get more support.

I am not sure if you are talking about the same meme that I am talking about.
I am referring to the meme that Edgar posted of Kamala Harris smoking weed in college.

It's the same. The meme is based on Harris's appearance on a radio program of some sort. If you read the back and forth between her and the hosts, it's easy to see how the meme is horseshit.

I don't believe however that any one political group (or any group in general) has a monopoly on this sort of bad behavior. The lesson isn't that it's a "right-wing" or "left-wing" lie, it's that everything needs to be verified. What use is a debate when you're using shitty or just plain made up facts, even if they look to help prop up your case?
