@Eva,
Well, it was a small jar of Nutella, but today I am feeling it - headache from too much sugar!! That will teach me for a long time again not to touch it!

Some Alka Seltzer for me this morning....

@spendius,
The second most important thing about a Wine Cellar Eva, assuming it to be the venue of festivities involving maidens and lusty swains, is the conversation. Or the preamble if you prefer.

The expert wine bibbers have the floor for the first few sips but once the bottles are half empty nobody knows the difference, or cares, between a Marques de Caceres Blanco (1985) Rioja and the plonk from the mall with a furtively added double Vodka.

It is as essential that maidens who engage in activities their mothers would disapprove of cannot remember anything about them when they wake up as it is that the swains are gallant enough to cause them to have no reason to.

That's the cliched answer to the question Joe. It's in some books on how to improve your conversation.

@Eva,
As I know well, spendius, our friend Joe needs no lessons in the art of conversation. He is a pro!

And it is of no importance to me what is expected in other wine cellars. As I initially stated when I first opened the place...

Are you looking for a nice, cozy place to unwind after a hard day toiling on the Politics or Relationships forums?

Just want a peaceful place full of friendly faces and lighthearted conversation?

You've come to the right place.

Pull up a chair and pour yourself a glass! There's always a fire glowing in the grate here at Eva's. Find yourself a nice, dark corner for a private conversation, or join the group at one of the large tables if you're hungry. There's plenty of food on the buffet...just help yourself.

No arguments allowed here. Just good times.

Oh, and I'm just the hostess. We have a sommelier, Jacques, who knows all about the wines...just ask him. My specialty is conversation.

I like your thread Eva, just discovered it today.

This morning the car in front of mine at a stop light had a license plate holder that said, "My car, daddy's money." It was on a beat up Chevy Aveo.

Your daddy has 600.00 bucks? Calm down princess. Very Happy

I just had to share my morning.

@CalamityJane,
Ah, you have a sugar hangover. I am quite familiar with those.

A little "hair o' the dog," CJ? Laughing

@EqualityFLSTPete,
Welcome! We just reopened this week. Glad you like the place. Be sure to invite your friends!

Can I get you a glass of red or white? It's on the house. Spendius and c.i. are having red, Found Soul and I are drinking white.

@EqualityFLSTPete,
Here you go. I think you'll like this. Jacques says it's a California chardonnay that's fruity but very dry. Unoaked, since FS asked for that specifically. I'm sure she won't mind sharing the bottle.

@Eva,
Um.. Share the bottle? Um... Pete you only want half a glass right? Smile Would Jacques open another one if we get talking and talking and laughing? I'm known for good conversation with my white wine.

Wow Eva, thanks so much, such an exceptional choice and expensive, I feel blessed.

I wonder if the kitchen as I'm drinking has any oysters? Given Pete had fish for dinner a few oysters won't fill him up and I'm starving. Wait, should you eat oysters now Pete? Wink

@ossobuco,
osso,

I didn't know you were a Dubliner's fan. Still I like Paddy Reilly's "The Town I loved so Well" and "Carrickfergus " even better. Best is Jim McCann's (also of the Dubliner's) version of Carrickfergus.

Here's a link - it's from the same performance as the one you linked here for Fields of Atherry.

@georgeob1,
Many years ago, I happened to be in Ireland, and had a wonderful time at.

I even remember a young lass who was good enough to have her picture taken with an old man like meself!

@Eva,
I'll have some of that wine from Spendi's hoard if it hasn't all deteriorated by now.

Otherwise, I'd like a a nice glass of Renwood Old Vine Zinfandel. Not sure what year is presently tastiest.

@georgeob1,
Thanks, kid - I've just become one. I'm keen on the Fureys and Davey Arthur and looked to see if they had recorded it first, then found the Dubliners' video. I'm learning, picking up links on the WA2K music thread by eurocelticyankee.

@georgeob1,
My mother's and father's families were both from County Mayo, post famine as I heard it.

George, we are perhaps of similar ages. Do you remember Father Peyton and the Family Rosary Crusade? Or the documentary, The Hills of Ireland? I'd be surprised if you do, just a whim to ask.

@ossobuco,
I vaguely remember it. About 12 years ago I spent a week hiking around the Ring of Kerry - we started out from Kenmare, a lovely town in the South of Kerry. Lots of green hills, stone walls, beautiful vistas and friendly people.

@georgeob1,
And my great-grandparents came from Co. Cork.

Are we all Irish here tonight?
