I will admit to already having a glass of Maker's Mark in hand, Diane, and I tilt it to you all, who you know I love. What a day, and not over yet for many. I haven't checked Google News for about five hours now, fairly afraid to look.

I've been on a2k off and on all day, as I go around the house starting to combine end of packing with start of serious cleaning.

Here, Montana. <hands her a cold, frosted mug> I'm afraid that handsome fellow behind the bar tonight isn't Jacques...it's just the delivery guy from the liquor store doing a little restocking for us. Jacques and Sophie are on a long overdue vacation at a friend of mine's villa on Lake Como (see previous page.) We're fending for ourselves here for a couple of weeks.

I sure picked a great time to send them off, didn't I! <giggles> I had no idea things would get so busy!

Let's turn off the TV now, shall we? I've seen enough of CNN for today. All the despair and devastation are more than I can stand. Diane is quite right. We need our friends around us at times like these.

I salute you all.

Oh, that explains why I though Jacques had gained a bit of weight (no offense to delivery guy).

Yes, I've been sitting in front of CNN since Sunday morning and I'm exausted from crying rivers of tears. We all need a CNN time out , I think.

Salute <clink>

OOOOOOHHHHH, the yellow rose of Texas, the only one I seeeeeeeeesh, drool, splat right on the floor........Woozy...what did she put in that drink? Sorry Osso, Eva and Montana, I always try not to fall directly on top of my dearest friends. What makes it worse is that I've gained a little weight. I'll just roll off the sofa and find a nice, soft bit of carpet. And a nice soft cat--hi there! zzzzzzzzz

Resting here for a bit...

My mind is a complex network of roiling opinions at the moment. Little early for an alcoholic drink here. At the moment I'm having a nice glass of Apollinaris water, and it tastes really good.

edit - I realize how entirely lame that sounds as many people don't have access to water now.

Oh, Osso. It's alright. We're all feeling the same way. There doesn't seem to be any "right" thing to say.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I could certainly use a stiff drink about now.

<spies Diane on the floor curled up with a stray tomcat, purring and gently snoring in unison> Oh, I see at least one person already had the same idea! <giggles>

Come on, Osso. Being miserable won't help anyone, you know. And I simply can't stand seeing you so sad. <pours two snifters of cognac, pushes one over to Osso>

Catches Diane as she falls. No worries there, Diane. You can fall on me any time of day of night ;-)

In honor of all the people who had to leave pets behind in New Orleans, the Wine Cellar and the Bistro will be accepting virtual donations for those rescue organizations now volunteering in the area.

Here's my contribution. You may leave yours beside mine in the large box at the end of the bar.

Good evening, KiwiChic! For tonight, we won't charge you for drinks as long as you pitch in for the Pet Rescue fund. Credit cards, US and NZ dollars are all accepted here. Every little bit will help.

What can I get you? We'll be happy to serve you anything except a Hurricane.

Hello,

Eva, why don't you plan a halloween party for next month at the Cellar or the Bistro. Announce it early so everyone can prepare for it. They can use the time to find a costume, props or whatever to really make it a smashing party. They can come as their favorite author, poet, or anything else. It will be fun guessing who the character is. They will also have time to make up some virtual party games.

Eva, With that pile of cash, please join us in November on the Insignia that will cruise from Barcelona to Athens for ten days. The travel agent that organized this cruise wth Jewel winery, will be a party cruise. They are shipping 30-cases of wine for us, and we are visiting two wineries in Europe as an optional tour. Some of us are also spending two days in Barcelona before the cruise, and two days in Athens after the cruise.

Well, I exaggerate, as it would drive me around the bend not to be able to be on land on my own timing. But in concept I can see the appeal and I know well that it works for you, and am excited for you.

Do you read up about the places before you go?

Here's your JD, KiwiChic. We were out, so I had to borrow some. (I have a reliable source.)

Ah, CI. That cruise sounds heavenly. I wish I could come! Unfortunately, SonofEva (aka "Cupid") is still in school and Mr. Eva (aka "Adonis") needs help ferrying the boy around to all his activities and assisting with homework. <Sigh> Besides, with Jacques and Sophie on vacation, who would mind the store? Will you promise to keep a travel journal and share entries and photos with us afterward?
I haven't made it to Spain or Greece yet, and I would dearly love to see those places one day.
