Uh oh. I think I saw her heading for the ladies' room in tears. I do hope we haven't upset her.

Ah, Sophie! Finally!

Thank you, dear, for making a few sandwiches from the baguettes as well. I AM getting hungry...

Perhaps we can lure Shewolf back with some of these? It's a new recipe I'm considering, and I need some help taste testing. They're Organic Chocolate Fudge Cookies with White Chocolate Chips.

Those baguettes certainly look good. I think I'll have some toasted small diagonal slices spread with a pesto of dried tomato, olive oil, garlic, basil, oregano, and chili pepper, she says.

You'd prefer some with sugar then, I take it? Sophie will whip some up just for you.

Can't have my guests languishing about without any chocolate, you know. That just wouldn't be right.

Here, Shewolf, maybe this will do?
(There are extra servings, if anyone else is interested.)

Sophie, will you please bring another serving for Shewolf?

No, no, just one fork, not two. She doesn't have to share!

Eva, my pearl, I don't think you need have agitata about competition. More cafes, as with more galleries, are to some extent good things. We don't care if you don't maintain high cuisine all the live long day. Be at peace.

Thank you, dear Osso.

You are right, of course.

It's just my damned competitive nature raising its ugly head again. I don't seem to be able to help myself.

Indeed, I think Cat's salon is a response to another's place, and fueled by an insouciant wish to be known rather suddenly as feisty. Not only that, she shows selfknowledge, so it seems to me. And Kicky's saloon, why, hell. The world needs more of them, even if I don't go there.

Sort of like the italians and many of the festivals... set around very energized contests. If not entirely, these are somewhat steamvalves for the cities they are in.

Indeed, I think we should foster more and more wine cellars and cafes and festivals and so on.

Skipping along, Eva, did you read Corelli's Mandolin? It is too fulgent in description sometimes, but ... if I have looked at some of those progressing sentences with an eagle eye, and found them reminiscent of previous accounts.

I am finding it very interesting - I am now about 2/3 through the book. A lot of the observations in the book ring true to me.

but then I wasn't there. Which is part of the point of the book, re history and what people end up thinking.

You have a great place here Eva, but I have to stay away from all this delicious food and pastries. This soft, and slender body could not take all those calories.

OK Buck, drag me outa here now, now before its too late for my body. *holds on to the door while being dragged out of the Eva's Wine Cellar*
